After rereading my first blog, the initial expectations and outcomes came out the same. I learned about other people and their cultures based on the topics discussed in class such as emotion and health. Successfully able to achieve all of the course objectives by deepening my understanding of culture through research assignments and blogs. Now have a better understanding of how culture and psychology are connected to each other. A way I have grown was researching information for each assignment to learn more about the different cultures and how I can relate to other people around the world. My attitude about Cross-Cultural Psychology has changed when I read the textbook and did the assignments to see how everything is interrelated. I enjoyed reading and researching the different topics to compare and contrast to the American culture based on their perceptions. I deepened my understanding of cultural diversity along with my own culture. Was able to use my critical thinking and problem-solving skills while doing the assignments. There are several things that I could have done better in the class. The first thing would be to prioritize more time for each assignment and turning the assignments in earlier. For some reason, I tend to turn in each assignment before 11:59 pm on Sunday the last day to turn in the assignments for full points. If I were to take this class over again I would change that. Also, change the way I study for the tests instead of solely relying on the study guides to do well on the tests. However, there was growth between my first test and second test because I change my study habits. I did well on the assignments except for assignment five because I only did one page instead of two pages for the requirement and full points so I lost points for that. One skill I have learned is that it is okay for other people to have different opinions from myself.
I choose this picture because it represents me completing the course and understanding the information.

The three things I learned in this course is understanding self-efficacy, assignment 2 takeaway on time and its control, and blog 3 NEO personality test. In blog 2, I discussed self-efficacy in terms of confidence and tasks accomplishments. Self-efficacy is an important concept to understand because it is based on self-confidence and performance in school. I described myself as a hard worker, who wants to excel academically. A process that I used to keep me organized in school is using a calendar to write out my classes schedule. this helps me remind me of the important dates for tests, projects, and other assignments. I find myself less stressed when I have all of my classes written down on the calendar and visually see which assignments overlap each other. The most important part of being successful is being surrounded by family members and having a positive attitude. This blog allowed me to express how confident I am as a student in and outside of school. There are many students like myself who have high self-efficacy even when there are challenges in reaching our goals. In assignment 2 takeaway, talked about how Americans value time while other cultures value interpersonal relationships. In American culture we believe in being on time to work, school, and doctor appointments because it is considered rude to show up late to places. Having schedules is an important tool when it comes to following through on plans and determine how much time there is to complete each task. I did module 10 archive for one of my top artifacts and it deals with time. Both assignments discuss how every culture has a different view of time perception and orientation. I can relate the concept of NEO personality test to my class in MGMT 330- Organizational Behavior. In MGMT 330 we discussed what the Big 5 are: neuroticism, openness, conscientiousness, agreeableness, and extraversion and how they relate to job satisfaction. Then compared and contrast the Big 5 characteristics. Also understand how our personality impacts behavior, job satisfaction, and job performance. Like the NEO personality test in Psych 420, I went over information on individuals who scores high and low on the Big 5 personality test. Overall, personality plays a major role in Psych 420 and MGMT 330.

I went to a nail salon in Charleston, SC for my aunt’s wedding during spring in March 2018. I noticed the workers who were working on our nails and feet had a concentrated look on their faces. At times they would talk to each other and laugh about something that was funny. The owner of the salon has a happy expression on her face whenever she sees a loyal customer that comes to her shop all the time. Another place I go to is the African Hair Braiding hair salon in my hometown Fredericksburg, VA. The ladies that do my hair will come in the shop with the tired expression on their faces. Other times when I go to the shop, the hair stylists have a happy expression on their faces. While braiding my hair and the other clients, the stylists are on their phone with the deep in conversation face or smile while laughing at a joke in their native language. Sometimes the employees would have the shocked expression on their faces when an individual they have not seen in a while visit them. I thought the people at hair salon and nail salon would have a different facial expression from me but I was wrong. We all have the same the facial expression when we are happy, sad, shocked, and so on. My expectations were for the people in the hair salon to have the same facial expression but turned out that they all react differently to certain things. Cultural displays show when it is appropriate to display emotions. The ladies at the hair salon and nail salon show their emotion along with another emotion displayed. The universality of the emotion is easily recognized on their faces when they are talking and doing their work.
I choose this picture for this blog because it represents other cultures emotions on their faces.

Unfortunately, fairy tales have a shared set of cultural norms and values that young children may not understand until they are older. In the Disney movie Aladdin, Princess Jasmine, one of the main characters was not happy with her life at the palace in Agrabah. Jasmine is different from all the other princesses because she was not waiting for prince charming to save her. Also rebellious towards her father on the palace rules for arranged marriage. The Sultan, the ruler of Agrabah and Jasmine’s father, was trying to find Jasmine a suitor for marriage. Jasmine was not impressed with the suitors her father choose and wanted to experience life outside the palace. Jasmine eventually left the palace and met Aladdin and his pet monkey along the way. Jasmine and Aladdin instantly became friends and fell in love with each other. Aladdin, on the other hand, had to change his personality and attire to be close to Jasmine. Jasmine did not fall in love with who Aladdin was trying to be but loved Aladdin for being his true self. Near, the end of the movie, Jasmine’s father changed the rules and said that she can marry whoever she wants. The culture in this movie shows a young woman who had to marry a person her father chooses because of the palace rules. In other cultures, there are rules where the girl has to marry the person her parents choose. The main theme of this movie is to be yourself and others will accept you for who you are. Princess Jasmine stood her ground and choose to marry Aladdin for being himself.
I choose this picture for this blog because it shows Jasmine and Aladdin interacting with each other regardless of their status in society and acceptance of who they are.

I satisfy my needs for autonomy in group assignments by reading all the parts and deciding which one fits me the best. Then I would tell my group members the part I will contribute to the assignment. For competence to be satisfied I rely on my communication and problem-solving skills to get through an assignment I may have difficulty with. Sometimes I would ask the teacher or my peers for help on an assignment that I did not understand the directions. I am able to satisfy relatedness from one of my classes topics and connect it to another class. Some of my CHP classes has topics that are briefly discussed in my other classes and related to everyday issues.
I choose this picture to represent autonomy because it shows me thinking about decisions.

The numbers 1, 3, 4, 5, 8, 9, and 10 represent the independent construal of self. Independent construal of self that individuals focus on personal, internal attributes such as ability, personality traits, goals, or preference. Also, a person who separate themselves from others. I consider myself more independent because I like to be accountable for my own work than relying on individuals in the group. Try my best to reach my goals on my own to prove that I can do anything. The numbers 2, 6, 7, represent the interdependent construal of self. Interdependent construals of self as unbounded, flexible, and contingent in context. Getting out of my comfort zone in order to work well with others in assigned groups. Whenever volunteering at the hospital to be sympathetic toward others when they are going through a tough time. I am still more independent in this case because some classes do not do group assignments. I am more interdependent at a hospital because I ask for guidance on situations where I need to be sympathetic to individuals.
Independent self- goals, being happy, genuine, private
Interdependent self- sympathetic, team player
It is much easier to think about the independent self because it is characteristics that describe who I am as a person not what others think of me.
I choose this picture for this blog because it shows one aspect of myself being happy.

I learned from this process to not rely on the study guide for studying the test. Also, assumed the information on the study guide is the most important on the test. However, proven wrong when I received the test results. The week leading up to the exam I briefly reread the four chapters, worked on the study guide, and barely looked over my notes. This feedback will help me become a better test taker by not fully relying on the study guide on the next tests but include more of the textbook and notes when studying.
I took a picture of the study guide and the answers for this blog to show the processes of how I studied for the test.

Personality
Blog 3
NEO personality test represents the five major dimensions of personality: openness, conscientiousness, agreeableness, extraversion, and neuroticism. I have an average score of 31 for neuroticism and it is consistent with my personality. My two older sisters pick on me and sometimes my feelings get hurt about a situation that is not important. Whenever I study for a test, I worry about the type of questions and test results. Usually full of energy exercising even when I am tired of doing homework. For extraversion, the score is 41 which is high and consistent with my feelings. I enjoy going to the fraternity/sorority events on campus because of my friends and meeting new people. Also, going to the ODU football games cheering on the team with my friends. The score for openness is 27 which is low and consistent with my personality. When I go to restaurants I usually stick to the same food and rarely try other foods. I am guilty of keeping certain information to myself by not sharing it with anyone else. Agreeableness score is 29 which is low and consistent with my personality. In group projects, I am friendly towards the other members of the group. We are able to help each other out when there is a misunderstanding with the instructions. Score for conscientiousness is 48 which is high and consistent with my personality. I consider my self to be reliable and responsible because I show up to the hospital I volunteer at on time. Organized by having a calendar to plan my school schedule and the time to do each assignment.
I choose this picture from wordle for this blog because it describes the adjectives of my personality.

The type of student I am is a hard worker, who is always motivated to do well in school. On a calendar, I would plan out my classes schedule to make time to study for tests and do the assignments. Sometimes ask teachers for help on an assignment that I did not fully understand. For any paper or assignments, I double check for grammar and spelling errors. Always strive for success in my career path of Health Service Administration even if I fail. My current level of confidence is strong because of my abilities and challenges in and out of the classroom. Some factors that increased my confidence levels are believing in myself, having a positive attitude, having healthy relationships with family and peers, and peak performances. Believing in myself tells me that I can do anything and not let anyone tell me otherwise. Having a positive attitude is key to doing well in school especially on tests and papers. Relationships with family and peers help by supporting and seeing potential in my goals. My self-efficacy results show belief in my ability at 100%, ability can grow with an effort at 92%, and overall at 96.9%. The results show how they relate to my task performances in and outside of school. I always try my best to study hard for tests and improve my grades from a C to an A even though at times it may be challenging. Overall, these two components represent how I perform as a student and areas to improve upon to be successful.
I took a picture of my self-efficacy results for this blog to show how confident I am in my abilities and task performance in and outside of school.

I will be able to examine psychological research and theory from assignments and research papers on the influence of culture around the world. Also, apply cultural diversity and how it impacts interactions in everyday life. Also, have the ability to learn skills on how to approach people of other cultures when asking appropriate questions about their background. Finally, deepen my critical thinking skills and problem-solving skills through research while approaching people. My expectation of this class is to learn about other people cultures and applying key psychology topics. I hope to gain skills in communicating with other people and create new experiences when traveling to other countries. Strategies I will use to be successful in this class are taking notes for tests, using flashcards for vocabulary words, reading journal articles about cultures, understanding the importance of paraphrasing books, journal articles, and other websites when doing assignments, and most importantly ask for help when I am confused about the assignment instructions.
I took a picture of my notes for this blog to represent me writing down important vocabulary words and information to study for the tests.
