I identify with module 10 activity on how long I can wait because time is very important in the Amercian culture. Other cultures do not value time but rather focus on interpersonal communication. Also learned in my family about black people time which means when an event starts at a certain time people show up late. At times it is annoying when a group of my family members shows up late because they are being inconsiderate of those who are hosting the event and others who came on time. Lateness disrupts the flow and takes away from the event as a whole. For this assignment, I was able to pick and choose the minutes I can wait for each person. The minutes varied based on the significance of that person I am willing to wait on.
The longest I will wait for my family and boss between 10-20 minutes while five to seven minutes for the other individuals. Learned that I am very patient with my parents, siblings, and boss because they are important in my life. However, I do not have the patience for my friends, colleagues, client, and boyfriend when they up to places late. When my friends and boyfriend show up later I would text or call them to reschedule at a different date and time. For the client, I would tell them if they show up late to reschedule to see me or send them an email if they do not show up at all. After waiting for my colleagues, I would text them that I cannot wait for them any longer and have other places to be.
I choose this picture because it represents time and how long I can wait for someone. The figures on the clock are running which means they are late going somewhere or on time going to their destination. Time is very important and it is rude to be late when the other person has other things to do as well. It would be better to either email, call, or text the person in advance that you cannot make it to the meeting or appointment so that time is not wasted.

Module 11 identifies with color and emotions that I get to choose the categories of the 12 colors before doing the next part. I categorized the colors into bright and dark. The colors such as pink, red, yellow, and orange represent my happiness and being energetic. When I wear bright colors it instantly changes my mood from grumpy to happy. Consider the dark colors to make me sleepy, dull, and dingy while white is harmony. According to Hupka and colleagues, Americans connected black, green, and red as envy.
The only color that I can see as envy is green because it means wealth not so much black and red. I consider black with sad because that is the color that most people wear to funerals. Red would be angry because a football coach face turns red when they are mad about a penalty. Russians also consider black, purple, and yellow as envy as well. The colors yellow and purple I would never consider as envy because yellow is happiness and purple is calm. Learned the perceptions of colors and emotions that vary from different colors.
I choose this picture because it represents the colors that were in module 11 archive. In the picture, it shows bright colors and some dark colors as well. All of the colors have different emotions attached to them and what they mean.

The activity for module 7 self-construal and emotion was the five episodes of happiness in the past. Emotions can be classified into those who encourage interdependence with others. Kitayama defined socially disengaged emotion as the emotions that tend to separate or disengage the self from social relationships and promote the perceived independence of the self from those relationships. This assignment allowed me to reflect on my past experiences that made me the person I am today. I learned a lot about myself based on the five episodes of happiness. I associate graduating from high school and acceptance to ODU as socially disengaged emotions because these are the accomplishments I did for myself. Also, associate socially engaged emotions with being a member of the ODU marching band, traveling to Ireland, and going to my aunt’s wedding.
I have two pictures: one about different emotions and the other about being disengaged. Both pictures represent what I learned from the activity. The happy face represents the five episodes of happiness that I discussed and the other faces are the in-between emotions that led to my happiness. The disengaged picture shows a cartoon character not paying attention to others in the conversation.

Module 13 archive discusses happiness and physical health being interrelated to each other. I always considered myself a happy person because I am always smiling even on my worse days. There are things that make me happy like watching tv, wearing makeup, food, jewerely, and robes. Most importantly my family and friends make me happy all the time. They always know how to cheer me up when I am down and support me in achieving my goals. My best ability is being able to smile to brighten up someone else’s day when I volunteer at the hospital. When an individual or family members come to the hospital, they may be in a bad mood, upset, or happy and I always smile to cheer them up.
Happy when I see my family every other year for Thanksgiving to catch up on our lives and have a good time. Tend to smile and laugh more when I am around family because they are familiar with my personality than a stranger. Academic achievement contributes to my happiness as well. When I get a good grade on my test or paper I am very happy that I like to treat myself to desserts or celebrate with my family. Physical health affects my happiness in a positive way by increasing my self-confidence. Always have the mindset at the gym to push harder to get the desired results I am looking for to be happy. Also a great stress relief from school and work life.
I choose this picture because it represents happiness and physical health. I just finished an intense workout and wanted to see my progress in the mirror. After working out, I feel so much better and less stress from school work and volunteering at the hospital. Physical health makes me feel better about myself and to be the best version of myself. I believe that exercising should be challenging and rewarding which results in happiness.

Module 3 archive is my favorite compared to the other modules archives. This activity connected me to my culture in many ways like never before. I always looked at the picture whenever I go home and amazed by the hard work of my African ancestors. My ancestors have been through a lot of hardships to have a better life and died while trying. Learned the importance of uniqueness and diversity of culture. Many people may agree with my views on the picture while others may look at it differently. I choose a picture in my parent’s house of Africans in their villages to represent my culture. This picture symbolizes where my ancestors came from and what their lifestyle was like. On the picture shows women cooking, children helping and playing around, a ceremony in the village, and men coming back from finding food. I am proud of everything my ancestors been through which this picture represents culture, ethnicity, and gender.
