Program Reflection

The experiences, opportunities, and knowledge of LEADERS impacted me in a positive way towards my academic field.  The Academic Internship course taught me how to deliver a video message for the boys and girls in Ghana on handwashing and the entire community. Also,  able to get out of my comfort zone by being in front of people and a camera by delivering an important message. learned new skills such as developing a questionnaire survey, writing a literature review, and creating a handwashing game. The Reseach course: CHP 430W, helped write papers on addressing the main problems, challenges, and solutions. The Diversity course: Soc 320 changed my view based on culture and sociology concepts.  Learned about wage gaps between men and women, race/gender/discrimination issues against the minority groups, and health care expenditure per capita.  I was able to apply the concepts in the LEADERS program to my other courses.

The strengths were being able to talk about some of the courses that inspired me to be a better student and person. An opportunity to express my undergraduate experience that will hopefully inspire others about their goals. I learned better doing the LEADERS programs by reflecting on my experiences than I would take a test. Challenges and frustrations I faced were taking a lot of classes so I can graduate on time. At first, I thought it would be a good idea to take six classes so I would not fall behind. After the past several semesters, I realized I was taking on too much because the six classes assignments, tests, projects, and presentations would overlap each other.  Throughout the week I would stay up late just to make sure that I turn in my assignments on time. With LEADERS, I was able to dedicate my time in each course wisely.  For the future, I will not take on to many classes where I spread myself thin and manage my time better. The new skills I learned I will be able to apply them to graduate school and my career in hospital administration.  I will be to write literature reviews and talk with more confidence from the academic internship experience from recording a video. Skills from research can be used when I am looking up topics such as infectious and break it down in sections to be easily understood. It is important to understand the diversity of other cultures and their experiences.
