CHP 430W is a writing course which focuses on research as well as writing papers on various topics such as the Health Belief Models (HBM), Theories of Stress and Coping, Social Cognitive Theory, Social Marketing, and Diffusion of Innovations. This research course relates to my other classes because some of my classes such as Psychology, Sociology, and Management courses discuss the social cognitive theory and theory o stress and coping. My professors for psychology and sociology talked about the social cognitive theory extensively in the past semesters that I previously took. Management class also discuss the social cognitive theory and how it affects the workplace. All the courses discussed the pros and cons of the social cognitive theory. CHP 430W showed me how to address the problems, interventions, comparison, outcome, and time. In CHP 461: Managerial Epidemiology, the assignments were group-based were we had to contribute to the case study assignments. Case study assignments we answer the questions and come up with solutions to the problems.
This course taught me the importance of finding evidence to help answer questions. Also, apply the concepts to my other classes as well as the real world. Learned how to organize my papers so it can be understood by my peers and professors. The picture above shows how I applied the theory of reasoned action and theory of planned behavior. I had to think about the topic that would help explain the behavior being performed, behavioral beliefs, normative beliefs, subjective norm, outcome evaluation, and perceived power. Overall, some of the topics discussed in this class are related to psychology, sociology, and management. Additional research I would do is talk more about global health issues to expand on the research that I did for my final paper topic on Adults Diagnosed with Type 2 Diabetes in Charleston, SC.
