After reading the assigned article I do believe fairy tales reflect a shared set of cultural norms and values. Many shows and films vaguely reflect today’s society by creating characters that are meant to reflect where they are from so the audience has a general idea of the character. For example, a show like The Wire was set to reflect the cultural norms of drugs in the African American community and how they affect inner city communities and government. It illustrates the hardship of black youth growing up poor, in the inner city, and surrounded by a major drug problem. Since the drug war in the Reagan administration the world has generalized black youth as only “hood”, “gangsta”, or “ghetto”. The show uses a detailed investigated the crime and the people selling and the continuous war police have with drug dealers all throughout east and west Baltimore. The impact of a show like that reflects poorly on the African American because everyone is not from the hood and does not live that lifestyle. Another reason is allowing those who have reserved opinions of African American to believe what they think because they feel the show is producing how they African American really are.  A character from the movie 42, about Jackie Robinson, influenced me in a positive way and continues to. This movie helped me realize that anything is possible with hard work and a steadfast focus on your goals. Jackie Robinson played by Chadwick Boseman inspired me to always work when the negative or doubtful light is dark and looming over. His passion for baseball and breaking down barriers inspires me to work hard and want to break down any obstacles in the job I hope to enter.
