These ladies have had a huge impact on my life by motivating me in my academic and success goals. These woman inspire me and never let me lose sight of my potential. I am forever grateful for them.

Compassion, wisdom, connection, community, creativity, empathy, and balance are all values that are very important to me. I plan to become a counselor in the future. These values are all reasons I want to become a counselor or therapist. I believe it is important to have someone you can share these values with, especially on days you feel helpless. Growing up, my family taught us the importance of connection and compassion. I have seen my family give their last to complete strangers, open their home to people in need, and supply the hungry with no questions asked. I was raises surrounded by compassion and that is what I want to reflect into the world. There is a homeless man who sits not too far from my apartment in Norfolk. One day I gave him all the cash I had on me and then proceeded to ask him what name it was. He began to cry and told be nobody cares that he is alive let alone what is name is. Experiences like this is why I want to be there for people at their lowest moments. I believe that everyone deserves to feel like a person and be loved and listened to. Simply asking him what his name was, was enough for him to feel seen, I look forward to making future clients feel the same. I want balance in life, and I felt that was not possible for me without higher education. I want to learn, and I want to make enough money to do more than just survive while being able to invest in myself creatively. My family played a big role in my choice of high education. They encouraged me to get out of my hometown and chase my dreams. My mother tells me all the time that she wants me to be better than her and she supports me in all that I do, big or small. Seeing my peers move on in life and conquer their academic and work goals also pushed me towards higher education. Seeing them achieve new things helped me realize that it was possible for me to. As I get older, I see my peers getting older and making families. I want to ensure that I have a balanced life so that one day I can do the same.

Compassion, wisdom, connection, community, creativity, empathy, and balance are all values that are very important to me.
