Blog 10

I feel my initial response to this was very textbook. I simply stated what was in the syllabus such as having to deal with behaviors and hypothesis. In addition I stated prejudice and discrimination with relationships and bonding and how all of these things I stated were important for us to learn in the modern day world. However, what I didn’t realize was how it was not just that simple. For example in the relationship section it caused us to not only discuss how we felt in relationships but how our significant others feel in certain situations. This caused us to put ourselves in someone elses shoes and see how they think and process things.  They also had us delve into attitudes before this class for example I knew media played a part in our lives but I just did not realize how much and how swayed we are by celebrity influences.  Without realizing it we tend to lean towards things we have seen famous people talk about or represent because we feel without looking at any facts that if they support it then we should to and that is not always the case.

I feel I have accomplished the course objectives well. I think I have taken in what I was given and really paid attention to it. This year I have really tried to figure out who I am and how to become a better person and this class could not have been a better one to take. I have evaluated my attitude and that of others while also making new connections with people and before when I answered I said they were important for us to make bonds but it wasn’t till I actually did those things did  I realize the effect it really has and how it affects us personally.   It truly makes you a better and happier person when you apply everything you have learned in this class with your real life and not just take this class just because you have to.

My attitude towards Social Psychology has changed a lot. Before this class started I did not really know if I would really learn anything or if this would be another class I just took and forgot about once it was done. However, after having taken this class now I see that that is definitely not the case this class changes the way you go about your daily life and how you process day to day situations and causes you to really process things and not just react. It teaches you how to think from different perspectives and different views that you otherwise would not think to do. If I had to say what I would do differently if I took the class again I would say I would have taken it more serious in the beginning. I would have actually processed the information and not just completed assignments just for a grade. I would have actually taken the whole course in from start to finish and absorbed everything the class had to give me.

I feel one way I have grown academically is becoming more focused in my academics and really trying to absorb what it is I am learning and implementing it in my real everyday life. In this class I feel I have gained a higher self-efficacy and I feel that will help me tremendously in my professional life.  I feel by having a higher self-efficacy that my confidence can only soar and make me more confident in myself and how I handle situations.  If your confidence is high nothing can stop you from accomplishing goals in your professional career as far as I am concerned.

The picture I included is one of a girl in a graduation cap. I put this picture up because it shows my education at ODU coming to a close in the next semester and I feel it reflects me taking in everything I have been taught and finally being able to incorporate it into my next adventure in life.

Blog 9

If I had to narrow down three things I’ve learned in this course so far I would start with music and how it has an impact in our lives. Without realizing it when we hear a song we can connect to we immediately associate it with something and someone and from then on when we hear it we always think of said connection. Music I a way for us to process emotions we do not know how to verbally say or display in the best way.  The next thing I feel had an impact on me was how without us realizing it ads have played a big role in our day to day life. Many times we find ourselves buying things such as face creams, drinks, and body wear because we see people we admire buying them. We see celebrities looking amazing and feel if we buy what they buy and wear what they wear that we can be just like them however, that is not always the case. A lot of times we tell ourselves that we are not easily swayed by people but without us even realizing it we are because we think we all have to look a certain way in order to be perceived as pretty or handsome.  Lastly the next thing that I felt I took in from what we have discussed in class is the mating section. In this section we learned of how males and females differentiate when it comes to relationships. We had to think about how women annoy men and how men annoy women. This made us think outside the box and think about the other gender and how they feel regarding things that we do, while also breaking down the three phases of the mating process.

I feel blog 2 relates to assignment takeaway 2. In blog 2 we were to discuss our self-efficacy and how well we feel regarding it. In the assignment takeaway 2 we had to write about what we took from the 6 photos of ourselves. Both of these assignments caused us to reflect on ourselves and dig deeper into who we are and how we perceive ourselves to be.  While yes our outward appearance plays a part in who we are who we are in the inside is what makes us who we truly are in the end.

Now when taking something we learned in this class and relating it to something we have learned in another class I would say it was Self-efficacy. In the beginning of this semester I had never heard of this but once learning it in this class I again learned about it in my Wellness and Programming class. In that class I learned that self-efficacy is an important factor in change. In order for someone for example to want to make a lifestyle change and begin exercising they have to first feel that they can accomplish this task themselves. It makes no difference if you have a million people supporting you if you are not confident in something then it will not happen. Having a high self-efficacy can be hard for some people but once you are confident in yourself there is hardly anything that can stop you.

The picture I included shows a person deciding between different door options.  There is no wrong answer only just having to finally pick which option best related to me.

Blog 8

I believe the article on mating had some valid points. I have seen that while men are more interested in pairing with women, while women are more interested in finding the one. Women tend to want a more emotional connection as opposed to men who thrive more on the physical aspect of a relationship.  I can see the three stages of the mating process. Beginning with the prior to consummation phase, the after the relationship has formed phase and lastly the after the breakup phase.

I think that when discussing the upset of men and women they vary. For example men upset women by not being considerate. When speaking of being considerate women tend to want their men to empathize with them, to put their needs above their own. Men upset women by caring more about physical needs than emotional ones. Women tend to respond better knowing their significant other is in heir corner no ,matter what and show it by more than just having sex with them.  Another way men can upset women is not staying faithful to them. Women want loyalty the most out of relationships they want to know no other women can have their man.

Next when regarding how women upset men we have by bickering or nagging. Women tend to focus a lot on what went wrong instead of enjoying the good moments. Another way woman upset men is planning things out. Women tend to have a plan for themselves and try and get their partners to adopt their plans as well. Another example is women tend to become dependent on their significant others to a point where they wrap themselves up in the other person. They tend to overcrowd and make then men feel smothered.

The picture I included is of two swans. I always admired the mating relationship between these two animals. When I was young I learned that swans mated for life and I always loved that about them. It shows that love is forever and not just a phase.

Blog 7

Self-Regulation is when you regulate yourself without any outside help.  Emotional Intelligence is the ability to control your emotions and handle them. Both relate to each other because while emotional intelligence is being aware of your emotions self-regulation is about using that awareness to keep you in check.  Emotional intelligence to me means being able to feel an emotion but not let that emotion take over my behavior and make me react in a way I wish not to, but allows me to process what made me upset and process it into a healthier way. For example while at work I went to help a customer get a shoe as they are not allowed to just pull from our wall, I asked if they needed help getting a shoe size and they rudely told me no even though I could tell they needed help so I stayed close by and once they realized they needed me they rudely said since I am standing there can I grab them a shoe that required them to go on a ladder once I got the shoe they took it and left. In that moment I had to contain my anger and annoyance with them and keep a smile on my face and act as if I was not bothered and not let my anger get the better of me. I could improve my emotional intelligence by not letting upsetting things upset me I can deal with people being rude at work but when someone personally attacks my character is when I am not as good at controlling my emotions and keeping myself in order.

I completely agree with the video and how ads are a crucial part of our life even without us realizing it. I have noticed that ads mainly portray fit healthy people in their ads. They show you what you should look based on basis portrayed by the media. A lot of times ads stereotype against a certain demographic whether it be colored or weight class they still do it. New clothing lines are worn by skinny men and female and when bigger women go to buy the same clothes to look like the models they find they do not have it in their size. These ads can cause body disorders and make people feel less than.  Yet people still buy these products because they want to look like the people on the ads no matter what.

They show women barely dressed or with flawless skin presenting their products to the public. A lot of times people look at ads and see that a lot of their favorite celebrities are on them. They see that the female stars have big boob and butt from implants, they have fake hair, nails, and are covered in makeup. And they ads tell them if they use this hair products they can look like them, or take these supplements and they will be skinny.  They make us women feel like we are missing something.  Its not just the women however, it is the men as well they show men with six packs and ripped arms, with flawless skin. I can see now just how much our ads pray on victims without even trying. A lot of ads have the same type of females and males represent their brands and products however, that does not always make it right.


This ad shows relevance to the video because it represents how the media distort reality and shows you what you should look like according to them.

  This ad speaks on another topic discussed in the video such as body image. All of these women are thin and wearing little to no clothes clinging to a man showing that the man has dominance.
 
 
This ad is one of a celeb in the video it talks about how people are not swayed by ads. However, if I saw this ad and was out and about and wanted to grab a drink I am probably more likely to grab the diet pepsi because I saw her drinking it.
 
This ad is of another celebrity looking flawless. In the video she talks of some models faces so clear they have no pores whatsoever just like in this ad.  Her skin is extremely flawless and makeup is perfectly done.

Blog 5

In the 1st picture it shows Jason Momoa shaving his beard to show awareness for recycled aluminum. This picture is a credible source. He did this advertisement and did not do it for personal profit but just to help the world. He is credible because he is also working on canned water instead of using plastic to help save the planet, and is constantly volunteering and doing things for causes such as these. Jason is a very down to earth person and he shows it in everything he does so as far as credible goes he is very credible.



In picture 2 it shows Kylie Jenner promoting FitTea. But it does not show that she is profiting from posting her selfie. It also does not say any of the nutritional facts behind the product or how it works. As someone looking at the picture I would assume all I have to do is drink this tea to become skinny like her and nothing else.This advertisement was not credible many times celebs simply state the reason they look a certain way is because they eat right and exercise but the FitTea shows that she is also taking supplement to help.

 
Picture three refers to an attractive source. I do believe it was effective because everyone loves Selena Gomez. And if they see her hair looking amazing and she is promoting this Pantene brand then they are more likely to buy this product. This typically is the case because a lot of people want to look like celebrities they want to do what they do and use the products they use. This attractive source worked really well for the promotion of this product. 

Blog 4

When going back and reviewing over my test I realized I got seven wrong. I then went and wrote down each one I got wrong and proceeded to find the correct answers for them.  This is a lot different than usual times I take a test especially online. A lot of times I take test once I get them back I might look over it for a second then not worry about it anymore especially if I did well on it. But with this assignment it caused me to go back and actually look over the questions I got wrong and see why it is that I got it wrong as compared to the answer I choose.

I realized when taking this test I did not put my put as much effort into my review before my test as I should have. I kind of wanted to see how the first test goes and base the rest of my test off it similar to what I do with the rest of my classes. I now know for the next test to make sure I take better notes and highlight key items that I feel are important. On the next test I will make sure the week leading up to it that my notes are thorough, organized, and neatly written for each chapter. I will make sure to review the notes the entire week and not just the day of.

I feel with this test taking strategy that I cannot fail in future test. I feel if I put more work into studying and making sure my notes are well done that not even in just this class but all of my classes will see an improvement. I feel the more I look over test and see where I went wrong it can help with later test because who knows when you might see that same question again. But with taking the proper steps that time I will get the answer correct. The photo I included contains highlighted notes which is a strategy I hope to use more of in future studying techniques to better my exam grades.

Blog 3

I feel music is a way people can connect to each other. I noticed in a breakup that a friend sent me a song that resonated with her that she felt I would appreciate and I did. I noticed that I and that friend did like similar music and we do share similar values and ideals.  We like some of the same artist and songs. I picked beautiful flower by India Arie to associate with this friend because it talks of empowerment and accepting yourself which is something we do for each other when we need it. Next I chose Fireworks by Katie Perry to represent my little cousins because I feel they can all accomplish anything they put their mind to. The next song I picked was See You Again by Wiz Khalifa and I connect that song to my brother who passes away because I know one day we will meet again. A song that I feel associates with me is Titanium by David Guetta this is due to the fact that no matter what life throws at me I will not fail and I will get back up each time. Then we have a Count on me by Bruno Mars that I associate with my sister. She can count on me for anything and vice versa I feel. Lastly the song I connect with my parents is I Hope you dance by Lee Ann Womack. This song has always made me think of my parents and the love they have for me.  Next a song that captures my outlook on life would be Natasha Bedingfield Unwritten. This song just connects with my life because nothing is set in stone life is continuing to change every day and all we can do is be a part of it.

Blog 2

I believe I am a good student. I do my work I show up to every class and I try to never give the teachers a hard time. This is my senior year I have a lot of confidence in myself to finish and continue my education. However, with that being said I know school will only get harder the further I go with my education. I know that in order to do this I need to work on my procrastination. I need to make a weekly plan of when assignments are due and stick with it. Another thing I can work on to be a better student and have more confidence is my note taking. I also feel that I can increase my confidence level by studying more. I feel with just these three things I can increase my level of confidence tremendously.

I scored a 30 on my self-efficacy results. When it comes to task accomplishment relating to my self-efficacy results I would say they were accurate. When I am given a task I complete it 95% of the time. When it comes to my self-efficacy also known as my confidence in being a student I would say some time it waivers, when I have more then one test in a week and papers due sometimes my confidence can drop. I feel when big deadlines are due they can add up with multiple classes nevertheless, making me feel overwhelmed.

Almost there! I included this picture of me with my sister at my high school graduation because that was a big moment for me in my time as a student then. I also feel my self-efficacy is as good as it is because of my families support. I titled this as almost there because it was one step closer to me achieving my education goals. I also included my self-efficacy chart as well. This will show my results and where I scored.

Blog 1

Based on the objectives listed in the outline I think it will help me greatly in the future. First the outline discusses procedures social psychologist we use to test hypothesis and behaviors of people. Everyday we have to deal with people and be able to understand other people, whether its at work or going to the store. The next objective is prejudice and discrimination. I hope that this can further explain why people choose to commit these actions and what runs through their heads. I hope that by learning this I can be more aware of how I treat people around me. Another objective it says we learn about is how to explain how are attitudes are formed and how we change them and its correlation to our behavior. I hope this objective helps me the most because anger is a strong attitude and learning how to change and learn how our attitudes are manifested and how we can control them will be a huge help later on. Next we have our liking of other people and how our relationships and bonds are made. Lastly on our objective list we have the ability to make connections while incorporating what we learned in class as well as in our outside lives. The connections we make based on what we learn is so important we need relationships and friendships to keep us from isolating our selves and causing us to mingle with the world and have a happier life.

My expectations for this course is for it to not be like any other psychology class. I hope that with this class I am actually able to apply what I learn with my real everyday life and with how I treat the people around me. I am hoping to gain knowledge and understanding with how each objective plays into my life. I hope to become a better friend, sister, daughter, etc by taking everything I learn and using it to become a better me. I hope to implement these by taking time each week to thoroughly go through each chapter and see how it can relate to my everyday life. If I take the knowledge I learn from this class along with what I have learned in the outside world I can not only pass the class but hopefully become a better person and teach what I have learned to others.
