It is explained that

someone or someone’s access to the companies servers client information without

authorization, and also stated what the recommendations were for the member to do to

further protect its information, is very much the topic of the letter. We can determine how

economic and social science concepts might relate to the scenario being described,

even though the letter doesn’t specifically address them directly. Economic because it

deals with money, and social because someone did it, the reason is irrelevant.

1- Economic Theories

-Tragedy of Commons: The idea about the theory is an occurrence in society where

people believe that “someone else” should be in charge of a certain problem rather than

them and because they lack the knowledge about the issue. In relation to the letter, the

company did not know, first because it is run by a third company, and second it is that it

is not their problem because they are not directly involved with the platform servers that

experience the intrusion. To further break it down, the information is stored in shared

platforms which caused the hack in the first place.

– Laisseez-faire Capitalism theory: The idea about the theory is that a system of

economics in which the government makes little economic interventions and lets private

economic choices and free markets determine results. This letter is intimately related to

the Laissez-faire economic theory because the government did not step in until the

corporation requested assistance in defending the inalienable rights of its citizens.

These people are the clients whose private data was compromised in the breach.

2- Social Science theories

– Social Trust: The idea which is fundamental to social science theory, describes how

much people trust and believe that other members of their society are trustworthy. In

regards to the letter, the shopper trusted the website when it purchased what he

needed, there was no concern that any of its information was gonna get stolen, the

letter does not state that the person’s information was stolen either, was just a

notification as a heads up because they did have his/her payment card information on

file.– Functionalism: According to this viewpoint, society is a system of interdependent

pieces that cooperate to uphold stability and order. It highlights the roles that many

social structures and customs play in society, such as the dissemination of values and

knowledge through education. Even do a crime was committed, the interconnectedness

of the companies involved are trying to do a right and correct the issue, by notifying the

member, he/she can now use change his credit cards so it won’t become a victim,

because we don’t know for sure if the shopper was a victim, they were just being

notified of the data breach of the company. There are many interconnected pieces: the

main company, the third-party company managing the sales and payments, law

enforcement, the cybersecurity firm fixing the malware, CA Office of privacy protection

and whatever organizations the member is willing to get involved like his bank

institutions or FBI.

By taking this action, the business hopes to restore the customer’s faith while also

reducing anxiety, stress, and possible harm to the business or website as a result of the

incident.

The notice is a notification of a data breach that happened to the company, and the shopper was getting notified that his purchase that he did online thru www.glasswasherparts.com, might have been compromised.
