Using the theory of Structuralism, I composed a brief essay in which I explored two short stories, “A Rose for Emily” and “The Oval Portrait”, under a created structure referred to as Gothic Decay.  In this short piece I explore what makes these two pieces prime examples of the created structure.  Once I created my own genre it was much easier to find examples from the text to support my ideas.  This theory was also very similar to theories I had used in previous English classes, allowing me to create a strong argument.  To build upon this paper, I would choose one or two more pieces that could fit into Gothic Decay to further support my created structure.
