Interns will work under the direction of a designated city leader performing specific and general job duties that prepare them to successfully enter the workforce upon graduation. \u00a0Interns earn $9.90 per hour and are eligible for benefits of temporary employees (holidays, pro-rated sick leave, civil leave, funeral leave and military leave). <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>The Program<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Mayor\u2019s Fellows Program provides participants\nwith an extended opportunity to link theory and practice. &nbsp;The experience has been designed to help\nparticipants integrate the knowledge and experiences they have gained in their\nstudies.&nbsp; Participants will be expected\nto immerse themselves in the process of public service and to make significant\ncontributions toward the completion of an important task or project, one that\nis meaningful to them and to the division in which they are working.&nbsp; This \u201creal world\u201d setting will allow them to\ndevelop and to hone their leadership and professional capabilities.&nbsp; The Internship will provide participants with\nan opportunity to think critically about their own actions and those of others\nso that they might become reflective practitioners.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Departments will host interns for the upcoming 2020\nsummer semester (May 26, 2020 \u2013 July 24, 2020):<br><strong><br>\n<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>The Commitment<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Interns will be committed to <strong>a nine-week <\/strong>assignment (May 26, 2020 \u2013 July 24, 2020) which\nwill include:<br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul><li><strong>Semester-Long Project(s)<\/strong> \u2013 Department projects\naligned with the intern\u2019s 1-2 established Learning Objectives.<\/li><li><strong>Seminars<\/strong> \u2013 Participation in\nprofessional development seminars.<\/li><li><strong>Reflective Journal\nAssignment<\/strong><strong> <\/strong>\u2013 Participants will\nreflect upon their internship experience through one-page journal assignments.<\/li><li><strong>Final Paper<\/strong><strong> <\/strong>\u2013\nParticipants will submit a final paper at the conclusion of their internship\nexperience. The paper will be one page in length.<\/li><li><strong>Remuneration<\/strong><strong> <\/strong>\u2013\nPaid internships of $11.00 per hour. <\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>The Benefits to the City<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Applicants who are chosen to participate in the Mayor\u2019s\nFellows Program will have undergone a selective interview process to ensure the\nbest candidates are selected to meet your department\u2019s needs. In addition, City\nof Richmond interns\nwill be engaged, educated, and connected to established and emerging leaders.\nThis will enable them to develop practical skills while learning more about the\nCity of Richmond as a whole.<br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>The\nProcess<\/strong><br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Selected candidates will be interviewed by panel\nexperts and notified of selection between March and April.&nbsp; Internship summer appointments will begin on <strong>May 26, 2020.<\/strong>&nbsp; Apply at <a href=\"http:\/\/agency.governmentjobs.com\/richmond\/default.cfm\">http:\/\/agency.governmentjobs.com\/richmond\/default.cfm<\/a>\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>The Program Requirements<\/strong><strong><br>\n<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Eligible candidates for the Internship must: <\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul><li>&nbsp;&nbsp;Be currently enrolled as an undergraduate\nstudent, a graduate student, or a recent graduate of an undergraduate degree <br>\n&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; program from a four-year institution\nin good academic standing (within the last 6 months).<\/li><li>&nbsp;&nbsp;At least sixty (60) credit hours or Junior\nStatus from an accredited four-year institution and obtained at least a 3.0\ngrade<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>&nbsp;&nbsp; point\naverage. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul><li>&nbsp;&nbsp;U.S. citizenship or legal non-citizen\nresidence status.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul><li>Complete an online\napplication through the City\u2019s online NeoGov database system.
