Northam<\/em>\n \ufeff<\/em>\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n  \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE <\/strong>\u00b7 January 22,\n 2020 \n  <\/strong>\n  <\/strong>\n Office of the Governor<\/strong>\n Alena.Yarmosky@governor.virginia.gov<\/a>\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n  \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Governor\n Northam Announces Launch of 2020 Governor\u2019s Fellows Program<\/strong>\n  <\/strong>\n ~\n Deadline to apply is Monday, March 9 ~<\/em>\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n  \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n RICHMOND\u2014<\/strong>Governor Ralph Northam\n today announced that applications for the 2020 Governor\u2019s Fellows Program\n will be accepted through Monday, March 9, and invited students attending\n Virginia colleges and universities to apply. Since 1982, the Governor\u2019s\n Fellows Program has offered participants firsthand state government\n experience at the highest level of Virginia\u2019s executive branch. \n  \n Fellows are placed with a member of the Governor\u2019s Cabinet\n or with a member of his personal staff, providing a unique opportunity to\n learn about the work and decision-making in the Office of the Governor.\n Governor\u2019s Fellows also hear from special guest speakers from the Northam\n Administration and participate in site visits to state government\n agencies.\n  \n \u201cEach year, our Fellows bring new energy, enthusiasm, and\n unique perspectives to their service,\u201d said Governor Northam<\/strong>.\n \u201cThe Governor\u2019s Fellows Program is designed to give young Virginians a\n front row view of the inner workings of state government, helping them\n develop a deeper understanding of the issues that are important to our\n state and the policies that will shape the future of our Commonwealth.\u201d \n  \n \u201cThe Governor\u2019s Fellows Program was an unforgettable\n experience, and was instrumental in preparing me for my career in public\n service,\u201d said Norman Ellis III, Legislative Correspondent for U.S.\n Senator Tim Kaine and 2019 Governor\u2019s Fellow<\/strong>. \u201cI was given a\n considerable amount of substantive tasks that not only supported the work\n of the Commerce and Trade secretariat, but also significantly added to my\n own professional growth and development. Having the opportunity to engage\n in intimate conversations with elected and appointed officials, to work\n with a similarly dedicated group of fellows, and to serve the\n Commonwealth is an experience you simply cannot get anywhere else in\n Virginia.\u201d \n  \n Qualified applicants must be rising college seniors,\n graduating seniors, or graduate students. All Virginia college and\n university students are eligible to apply, regardless of state of\n residence. Virginia residents who attend out-of-state colleges and\n universities are also eligible. Both public and private college and\n university students are encouraged to apply.\n  \n The selection of Fellows is based solely on merit. The\n Governor\u2019s Fellows Program does not discriminate on the basis of race,\n sex, color, national origin, religion, sexual orientation, gender\n identity, age, political affiliation, disability, or veteran status.\n  \n The deadline to apply for the Governor\u2019s Fellows Program\n is Monday, March 9, 2020. The program directors will hold interviews\n between March 16, 2020 and April 3, 2020 and will advise on decisions by\n April 10, 2020.
