Toomey 3 Credits<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>A general education course that is designed to<\/strong><br \/>\n<strong>introduce the student to the concepts associated with the art form of Jazz.<\/strong> <strong>An in-depth survey of the history of Jazz from the early 1900&#8217;s through<\/strong> <strong>modern Jazz is included, with an emphasis on listening and appreciation for the art form.<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">MUSC 603 Principles of Music Education Dr. Raschdorf 3 Credits<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Presents an aesthetic and philosophical view of the field of music education from various viewpoints. From the ODU Catalog: Methods, techniques, principles, and tools of music education, with reference to various types of school situations.<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">MUSC 611 Current Trends Elem\/Sec Music Dr. Raschdorf 3 Credits<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>A graduate-level course will explore trends in the structure of school music programs, curriculum, music repertoire, teaching methods, and teacher training from the beginnings of public-school music in the US (Mid-1800\u2019s) through the present day.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Summer 2024<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u2022 MUSC 606 Choral Music Literature Dr.Klein 3 Credits<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong>The purpose of this graduate-level course is to expose the choral musician to choral literature from the Eras of the Renaissance, Baroque, Classical, Romantic, Twentieth Century, and beyond. Major choral composers of each era will be discussed, as well as appropriate stylistic performance practices, vocal tone, and rehearsal techniques. Historical\/technological events influencing each era are presented.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Fall 2025<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">MUSC 604 Foundations of Music Education Dr. Raschdorf 3 Credits<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>A graduate-level course that is required of all students pursuing the Master of Music Education degree. The purpose of this course is to acquaint the student with the historical, philosophical, and psychological foundations of music education to enable each music educator to develop and\/or refine teaching strategies based upon sound educational principles and how they relate to curriculum development and classroom practices.<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">MUSC 613 Workshop in Music Education Dr. Raschdorf \u00a01 Credit<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>This workshop is designed to offer Old Dominion University graduate credit to any individual residing in the Commonwealth of Virginia. Attendance for a specified number of hours at the Virginia Music Educators Association (VMEA) In-Service Conference activities and written work are requirements of this workshop.<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">MUSC 636 TECH- Jazz Ed in Secondary School Dr. Owens 3 Credits<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Introduces the application of jazz ensemble pedagogical methods and materials. Topics will include introduction to jazz history, effective rehearsal techniques, score study techniques, performance practice, improvisation, and jazz pedagogical resources for the instrumental jazz ensemble.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Spring 2026<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 AI 315 AI in Content Creation D. Jung 1 Credit<\/p>\n<p><strong data-start=\"235\" data-end=\"413\">Exploring how AI can support and enhance your creative process \u2014 from brainstorming and ideation to design, content strategy, and distribution.<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">MUSC 410 Psychology of Music 3 Credits<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>\u2022<strong>This graduate-level course is designed to enhance the professional music educators&#8217; understanding of the aesthetic responses to music in various settings. The professional musician\/educator will learn to integrate his\/her understanding of musical aptitude as it relates to human growth and development. They will also understand the psychological implications of personality types as they design, implement, and assess their pedagogical\/performance approach.
