Our behavior includes thoughts and feelings. Self-regulation is crucial because it will help predict different outcomes like physical health, emotional well-being, social functioning, and academic success. The five elements that makeup self-regulation are Self-control; Trustworthiness; Conscientiousness; Adaptability, and Innovation. With all the good that can be done from self-regulation, it can also have some adverse effects. Some negative outcomes of self-regulation are substance abuse, underachievement, and crimes. To get closer to our goal, we change our behavior. Behavior plays the most prominent role in self-regulation. The behavior part in self-regulation has a name, and it is emotional intelligence.
Emotional intelligence is the ability to accurately perceive your own and others’ emotions, understand the signals that emotions send about relationships, and manage your own and others’ feelings. Emotional intelligence has five different components. The five elements are self-awareness, self-regulation, motivation, empathy for other and social skills. These five components are used to develop our EQ(Emotional intelligence). My job made me take an EQ test to see my performance in a job. My coworker scored pretty high on the EQ test. The benefits of that for me are helping me find a better goal, feeling more confident about my work, and a better ability to adapt to change. Some way an EQ is displayed is at work. The relationship between both self-regulation and emotional intelligence is, self-regulation help make up emotional intelligence.
While taking my EQ test, it said that I had built a strong EQ. I received a score of 48. I know I can keep pushing myself to get a better score on the EQ test.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
Self-regulation is the process in which we engage to help us change our behavior to pursue a goal.
