Assignment Takeaway 5
For this last and final assignment, we were told to document 5 nice things that we did for others throughout the course of a week and expand on why we committed to doing those nice acts. What I learned from this assignment is that a little could go a long way and that it does not hurt to help someone else out, especially if they are in need of the help. I previously learned in my Ethics class about morals and why people did the things they did. In that discussion, we were given a set of scenarios such as telling your grandmother something besides the truth because the truth would hurt her, the professor asked if we thought that was the “ethical” thing to do. That goes with this assignment in a way, whether we committed to the nice things or not because we feel that it is the ethical thing to do. This assignment was personally relevant to me I assume because as I mentioned in my paper, I naturally do kind acts for others without the need for something in return or being asked. It was easy for me to complete Assignment 5 because I took things that I do on the daily basis and just elaborated on them. In the image below, it shows someone giving a homeless woman money so that she could buy herself something to eat. The person in the image is doing something that she isn’t asked to do to try to help out, even if only a little.

Assignment Takeaway 4
Love and how we love was the basis of this assignment. With doing the questioner, we were given scores that placed us into certain love categories that described what we want best out of a significant other. I was not aware of these 6 subcategories until doing the Styles of Love survey. I have previously learned in one of my anatomy classes why certain people maybe attracted to one another. Attraction by natural scent is one thing I’ve learned in the past. This being that two people have better fate of falling for one another in the gym when they are sweaty and not filled with fragrances. Personally from this assignment I learned what I somewhat already knew. For me I think that I seek for love through friendship but ironically my results from the survey say otherwise. In the picture below, it shows an example of two people from the infamous movie ‘Love and Basketball’ who fell in love with one another as kids and ended up getting married later on in life.

Assignment Takeaway 3
Assignment 3 was an interesting assignment choice, it dealt with the prejudice, discrimination, and stereotype module. We were assigned to watch a video and asked whether we believed the things said in the video were acts of racism or whether they were just things said in the heat of the moment. In doing this assignment, I learned or took on a stronger belief that nobody can be ” accidentally” racists or prejudice, you either are or you aren’t. Of course the topic of racism is discussed in every element of schooling throughout the years so it is nothing new. To pick a previous course that I can relate this topic to it would be 7th grade history where we dove more into the Civil rights era. Before this assignment, yes I believed some things people said unconsciously and really meant no harm by their words could be considered accidental like in children for example. But in this video, there was no accident what so ever. Personally this relates to me because I myself am an African American female who knows my history and what it took for people who look like me to live, fight, and survive in the past and in the world today. The picture below to me represents exactly what Michael Richards was describing in his “rant” toward the person in the audience. His words were filled with hatred and his subconscious truth and it put me in a mindset of slavery, civil rights era, and hate crimes toward black beings.

Assignment Takeaway 2
For this assignment, we were assigned to choose pictures that best represent ourselves and reflect on them. What I learned from this particular assignment was that I am more relatable to my characteristic traits that I picked for Module 6 than I realized. Going into detail about the pictures helped me learn more about myself than I have in the last few years of my life. My reflections I made on my pictures especially the one with the sunflowers gave me a little extra confidence and made me think about the self efficacy survey we did and in that assignment, I stated that I could stand to work on my confidence both educationally and personally. This exercise gave me a boost in that it showed me that I love myself for being caring, humorous, and helpful. The picture below is a beautiful picture of sunflowers which to me give me good warm vibrations. I chose this for my visual representation because this flower heightens my positive energy.
