The top three things that I chose from our eportfolio were the sexualizing women in ads for blog 6, the connection between music and relationships for blog 3, and the recent mating article from blog 8. I learned from the TED talk that women are used as advertisements to make sales higher for companies no matter what their product is. What I learned from the connection between music and relationships is that their is a correlation between the two. People can affiliate certain songs to situations that they have been through with one another or just have a common interest in an artist. In blog 8, I learned that there were stages in the mating process that people tend to go through. One concept from the top artifacts that I can relate to an assignment that I completed was based around racism and prejudice. Module 4 was about the media and how they portray news in the community. I discussed how the media perceives African Americans as a threat like they are all the same, especially black males. Assignment 3 was about Richard’s Triad and his racist remarks he made toward an African American male in his audience. In both of these areas I indulged in the mistreatment of black people throughout time and the misperception that they have been under. I can relate the topic of prejudice, discrimination, and stereotype from this class to that of a history class taken in high school. Both of these discussed racial slurs and hatred toward black people during slavery, civil rights era, and the present. Below is a VISUAL REPRESENTATION of how I narrowed my topics learned this semester. I went through to see which assignments I scored high on out of the 5 point value they have, those being blog 3, 6, and 8. They were ranged from 5 out of 5 or 4-4.5 out of 5 meaning I clearly enjoyed them most hence why I chose them to reflect on.

After reading this mating article, I would say that some of the information in it is really relatable when it comes to relationships. Especially the part where the writer dives into the three stages of the mating process. Stage 3 “After a breakup” refers to one partner or both of the former relationship quote on quote “stalking” one another to convince them back into a relationship. I don’t agree with this reasoning of stalking to be true though. I think that one or the other partner is stalking to see if there significant other has moved on with someone else either right after or a little bit after their relationship has ended. Some ways in which women make men angry are that they what men like to call “nag” them too much. Men do not like to hear things over and over again, it begins to annoy them. However, if a woman feels as though she is not satisfied with lets say how her partner is treating her or maybe she wants more, she, out of respect for herself will voice her feelings. Additionally, women can bruise a man’s ego easily and this will send them into a rage of either doing or saying hurtful things in return. Men have a hard time of being told off, especially if the woman is not interested. They cannot handle the honesty, even though they think that women are too fragile to be told the truth, they are the ones to get secretly hurt by it. With that being said, men can make women angry when they lie to them about little things to “protect” them. I am not sure what makes a man think a woman isn’t strong enough to handle the truth but in actuality, it is what is preferred. Another thing that can make a woman angry is that their partner is just too nice. From personal experience I have witnessed another woman walking up to a man that is in a relationship and they exchange conversation and numbers with one another, nothing innocent about that at all. The man will see nothing wrong with it because in his head they were just talking and he didn’t physically do anything. To their female partner however, it makes them think, and once a woman begins to think and overthink a situation, its a done deal. Below are two images in which show how a woman upsets a man by turning him away when he approaches her and a man upsetting a woman by giving his attention to another female when they are together.

The relationship between Self- Regulation and Emotional Intelligence is that you must be aware of yourself in order to control your emotional reaction to a person or a situation. Emotional Intelligence to me is knowing how to bring yourself back from anything that causes a blockage to anyone of your chambers. In the video with Linda Ferguson, she discusses ways to bring yourself back from things that disturb your peace by either practicing breathing techniques or Body Sensing. Personally, I prefer to focus on my breathing through meditation and then slowly bring myself back to consciousness. Below is my visual representation of my EQ test scores showing that my Social Awareness is the highest resulted category in my test meaning that I take a strong understanding to the people around me and their feelings, I would agree with this to be true.

Watching this Ted Talk Conference with Jean Kilbourne, I honestly was not that surprised with the amount of women being sexualized for a product sell. People think (men in particularly) that a woman being broadcasted with barely anything on her body will make whatever they may be selling rise on the market, sadly this is true. Sex sells and it always has, anything less than what is exploited on tv and social media which is barely nothing at all, won’t make the cut. Prior to this presentation, yes I have noticed manipulation, dehumanization, and distortion of women’s bodies’ in ads and magazines. The sad truth being this is what younger girls look to as their “icons” and models. Hence the issue of girls not thinking they are pretty enough because they do not look like what they see. This video contributed to a new understanding of differential gender representation by showing that men get dehumanized too just not as much as women do. I say this in reference to the picture of a piece of lettuce or what might have been a plate of salad with a woman’s body as part of it. The salad had legs, breast, and arms clearly giving it some form of sex appeal. Men do not get publicly used as food items for entertainment or for marketing. Below are 5 images that support the Ted talk video. Picture 1 (on the left) being an ad supporting vegetarians saying eating meat is bad. Anyone looking like this who does not eat meat I am sure would influence anyone to become vegetarian. Picture 2 is of a burger from Hardees, accompanied by a model in a bathing suit. This will get the attention of any man, and I do not mean the burger. Picture 3 of the Coke bottle wouldn’t be too bad, until of course you see the lower end of the bottle, giving the bottle its own personification of a naked women. Pictures 4 and 5 tie into one another, Picture 4 is a photoshopped picture of the same model making her skinnier than what she actually is. Picture 5 is pretty much saying that the wide lower region on a female is not attractive and saying you should look like the model below it. Both of these pictures reiterating that being plus sized or even an overweight female is not the ideal look and you should want to be “this” instead.

Picture A represents a credible source because the product is being advertised by an actual credible and well-known doctor. Dr.Oz is a trusted doctor that shares great health tips mainly on day time television. The fact that he has a legitimate PhD is what would make someone who is looking to lose weight try the product he is selling because they trust his judgement and feels that his background education means he knows best.

Picture B is an example of a non-credible source due to the fact that the two in the ad are not anyone necessarily relevant, more like paid actors trying to convince someone on tv to try out the particular credit repair company. This is not like the ad above where it is being advertised by someone who knows what they are talking about, these are your average everyday commercial couple who got asked “ would you like to make a few hundred dollars making this commercial for me?” not really fully aware about the credit repair company.

Picture C represents an attractive source because everyone thinks that Beyonce is attractive and not only is she promoting Pepsi, but she is also promoting her halftime show at the 2013 Superbowl, judging by the words on her face. I would say that I did find this source to be attractive because at the time, it was a big deal that she performed at something like the Superbowl seeing as to how she is extremely famous and now a days does not show up to any award shows. It is typically the case to get someone attractive to promote an ad especially with clothing or makeup because women in particularly will want to buy the products that are being promoted.

Through this first testing process, I learned that definition of terms were extremely important. To help me better remember the information, I made flash cards, colored flash cards that corresponded with each chapter that had definitions from the text and that helped me retain quite a bit. I did review the results of my tests and they were really good for me not doing the review sheet. I looked over the review sheet but I did not fill it out because I did not give myself enough time to do it. For future tests in this class, maybe me completing the review sheet will increase my scores each time I take exams to improve my chances of maybe receiving a 100. In this picture below, it shows a few of my flash card titles that I used to separate the chapters when making the note cards. Using flash cards or sticky notes to help me study not only keep me organized but they also help with retention.

In my opinion, the connection between relationships and music is strong. Different forms of music bring different people together to have one common ground. Listening to music is therapeutic to some individuals, myself included. When hanging with my friends, we listen to music, pretty much the same artist every time, Frank Ocean because not only do we all personally enjoy his songs but we find them to be soothing. Normally when we listen to his music, we are in a relaxed setting being that his music is soft and low tempo that creates the perfect vibe. If I had to choose 6 songs that have an association with people in my life, one would be ” Waves” by Kanye West, the song me and my best friend love. This song goes back to junior year of high school when we played soccer and the album first came out, it was our pregame motivation song. Another one would be ” Rose Rouge” by Jorja Smith, it associates with one of my guy friends who loves the jazz instrumentals of the song, and I think that it a smooth song. For myself personally, I associate Jhene Aiko’s “Speak” with my past relationship and how I much I have grown since being in it. “Mona Lisa” by Lil Wayne and Kendrick Lamar, with my best friend again because it gets us what we like to call “hype” on a long drive somewhere. Next, “Nikes” by Frank Ocean is associated with my friend and his girlfriend, as I mentioned earlier it is soothing and relaxing in a chilled environment. Lastly, ” GO Crazy” by Young Thug and Chris Brown, my guy friend loves to dance and seeing him dance to this song when it first comes on gives everyone around him a lot of entertainment. The picture below is a representation of all of songs that I have in common with my friends, it brings us closer and we have something to look forward to when we are together.

If I had to describe myself as a student, I would say that I am well driven and motivated. I have a hard time trying to manage multiple tasks without getting overwhelmed, however, when need be I can take a step back, organize thoroughly and complete my tasks. My current level of confidence as a student if I had to rate from a scale of 1-10, 10 being the highest would be a 6. I have self doubt when it comes to my school work , especially when it comes to test taking. I tend to second guess myself a lot and fixing that would be the greatest factor to increasing my confidence level. When taking the self efficacy survey, majority of my answers resulted in them being moderately true. My score was a 29 out 40 so I am a little over half of having a high self efficacy.

Monthly Planner: The picture above shows my planner for the month of September with all of my previous and present assignments for this fall semester. Keeping a planner keeps me organized so I do not lose track of any work that gets assigned to me. I color code each class as shown on the side of the picture and each assignment is written in the color of the class it belongs to.

The objectives for this course: Social Psychology basically describe what the purpose of this course is and how it will help inside and outside of the classroom. I feel as though these objectives will assist me in better understanding individuals’ cognitive thinking and how their attitudes formulate. My expectations for this class include just that actually. Learning about how people interact and what causes them to react the way that they do to particular situations. To ensure my success in this course, I tend to read the provided chapters and take notes as I read, along with trying to keep up with the various assignments and the multiple submission locations. I can possibly do that by putting up sticky notes around my computer with the assignment and deadline week since I use my computer for all of my assignments on the every day basis.

Mapping Black Lives Matter Protests Around The World | Here & Now

Social Behavior:
This picture is of Social Behavior described as one or more people affecting each others actions based off interaction. I chose this photo, because it shows what looks like to be a protest or a march for a meaningful cause, more recently Black Lives Matter cause. These gatherings normally happen because a group of individuals have a belief in something and they broadcast their beliefs showing others the meaning behind their actions. Soon, many decide to stand behind them and fight for the same cause, mainly something that results in change. Therefore showing the act of Social Behavior in people. https://www.wbur.org/hereandnow/2020/06/22/mapping-black-lives-matter-protests
