With the number 1 pick in the 2023 NFL draft, the Carolina Panthers select Bryce Young. Wasting little time, the Panthers had a consensus decision with their staff on who they were going to use the first pick on. Bryce Young is a 1x Heisman Trophy winner in 2021, playing only two seasons at Alabama and becoming the first QB in Alabama history to win one. In his short time with the team, Young was able to become the school’s second-all-time passing leader with over 8,200 yards. Despite his small frame at 5’10, Young knows defenses will use it against him, but he believes it’s all about anticipation and being able to mislead the defenders so he can succeed on the field. NFL Analysts say Young’s strength is his calm presence on the field and being able to make full-field reads while avoiding the rush. The newly hired head coach, Frank Reich, is eager to get started with the rookie QB who will likely start day 1 and command the starting role in training camps starting mid-July.

Last night my favorite NFL team, the Carolina Panthers, had the number 1 pick in this year’s draft. I decided to flip the script of my original idea and develop a graphic of Bryce Young. This features him edited into a Panthers uniform, the city of Charlotte, another edit of Young throwing in a Panthers uniform, and the Panthers statue from outside of the arena coming out of his helmet. All of this is surrounded by clean-looking paint-brush effects and sports-themed fonts. After, I wrote a short press release with information on where Bryce Young went to school, his strengths and weaknesses coming into the league, what he accomplished at Alabama, and what other NFL analysts said about Young. I went to my sports professional penpal, Chris McCloskey, and got his advice on how I should make and display this. His help got me to make the graphic and go the extra mile by writing a short press release to complete my assignment with his approval. Essentially this would be for a news article that would use the graphic as a display image with a quick overview underneath of what this pick does for the Panthers.
