Describe five businesses or non-profits that have been created in my field.

First business I would like to talk about is Deepwatch. Deepwatch is a business created in my field of cyber security. Deepfake provides companies with early detection and response to cyber threats. They also tailor guidance for your company to help reduce risk and improve your company’s security overall. Next is CrowdStrike. It provides endpoint security by providing antivirus, endpoint detection and response, as well as a “24/7 threat hunting service” (CrowdStrike.com). Third business I would like to talk about is McAfee. This is one we all should know by now. It provides your devices with antivirus software. Another business I would like to discuss is Duo Security. Duo Security provides your company with an “all-in-one platform that lets you verify user identities, assess and act on the health of devices, set adaptive access policies, and protect users’ productivity with modern remote access and SSO capabilities.” (Duo.com). The last company is KnowBe4. KnowBe4 provides security for your company by keeping track of real-world phishing attacks to determine current trends in the cybersecurity field. They use this information to make training and other cybersecurity recommendations.

What is your overall perspective on the entrepreneurship experience?

I think looking through the entrepreneur lens is extremely important. It was quite useful to learn the mindset of an entrepreneur. I really enjoyed coming up with an innovative solution to a problem in my field of cyber security. I believe the entrepreneur mindset I gained from the class could be helpful in my future. If I ever do plan to innovate a solution for one of the various issues the cyber security field faces then I believe I will use the information I learned in this course.

How did the entrepreneurship prepare or not prepare you to be a competitive candidate for vacant positions?

I don’t know. I think that learning the mindset of an entrepreneur could be useful in the future. I think it also depends on what I want to do. I think if I have a normal IT job then it wouldn’t help me at all honestly. Now if I were to be tasked with coming up with a solution to an issue we faced then the information I learned will be used. I really enjoyed the concept of the course. Coming up with the application Purge and how it will help the cyber security field was a whole lot of fun. I really enjoyed collaborating with my group and coming up with ideas to tackle the issue of data breaches on mobile devices.

What suggestions do you have to improve the experience?

I would say maybe a different assignment layout. Personally I think the pitch is a great idea. If we follow the entrepreneur path it will be something we use in the future. It can also be used to even sell yourself as well. This will be something we need to do to earn future job opportunities. The 15 page paper is something that I found to be more hassle than it needed to be. It caused so much unnecessary stress and anxiety. Coming up with our solution and pitching it would be wonderful. I think moving away from a 15 page paper and focusing more on selling the product or learning how to get it approved are more useful. You could even focus more on the possible barriers and how to deal with them. I would say just choose different assignments to do other than a 15 page paper.

What’s next for you?

What’s next for me is to finish school and pursue a job in the field of cyber security. Personally I was thinking after getting my degree I would go into the military hopefully as a commissioned officer. I want to focus on cyber security and get the best hands on experience as well as different certifications. I believe the opportunities the military gives me outweigh any other job opportunities. After a possible 5 years in the military I will evaluate where I am at and see if I want to continue the military route or get a civilian job. If all goes well I will be able to get all the needed information and skills in the military and be able to apply them to many jobs in the cyber security field.
