Assignment 5 Takeaway

This assignment was fun to complete. While completing this assignment, I was able to combine multiple different tools and ideals from a variety of my undergraduate classes all in one assignment. My fields of study (Human Services, Psychology, and Sociology) ways of thinking were given an opportunity to intertwine to complete the assignment. For example, I focused on beliefs and attitudes towards depression in Italy while comparing the culture to North American culture; the Psychology and Human Service fields of study gave me an adequate background on the topic of depression while the Sociology background gave me a better understanding of different aspects of culture/different societal views. Another aspect of the assignment was that it gave me an opportunity to connect the dots for all three of my fields of study into one assignment. Being able to connect all of the dots for all the information in the assignment, it also helped solidify many of the topics that I have learned during my undergraduate career.

Assignment 4 Takeaway

Assignment four opened my eyes to the difference between media and advertisement cultures around the world. Prior to this assignment, I really never thought much about how different countries around the world engage their specific population through advertisements. Upon researching the difference of advertising among different cultures I realized how similar some countries are, while other countries are very different. In my assignment, I focused on North American advertising culture versus Australian advertising culture. This assignment taught me that while generally our two societies may appear similar, the two are still different in their own unique ways. Hence, why the media worlds differ, they both have to appeal to their specific cultures within their own country. I personally found it shocking how provocative many of the Australian advertisements were. It was not something that I particularly expected. After completing this assignment, I would like to pay closer attention to different advertisements and compare them just out of pure interest on the subject matter.
