During the first six weeks of University 150, I have learned a lot about my writing style. Through the process of writing my journals and the first essay, I have been able to recognize strengths and weaknesses within my writing. I realized that many of my grammatical errors consisted of shift in person and comma splices. On the positive side, I have realized that I have strong body paragraphs, but I need to focus on making the introductions and conclusions equally as strong. I have taken this feedback to heart and will keep it in mind in all my future writing. The class has taught me a lot about my writing style and what I must improve on to grow as a writer and as a storyteller.
Transitioning into a new educational setting has improved my motivation to progress in my writing. Knowing that my grades mean more than ever motivates me put in more work to change and better my writing. I plan on taking advantage of the writing resources available to me at Old Dominion to ensure my growth as a writer. I truly felt that the feedback I received back about my first essay from the Writing Center helped me achieve a good grade on my assignment. It also opened my eyes to specific weaknesses in my writing and how I need to address them in future assignments. The writing lessons I learn during class have helped me structure my sentences and fix my grammatical mistakes. Taking this English course has really opened me up to my weaknesses, which I can use for good in the rest of my academic career.
