Whether it is the behind the scenes work, boots on the ground, fundraising, or blood and platelet donations, there are so many opportunities for volunteers within the American Red Cross.

The mission of the American Red Cross is to “prevent and alleviate human suffering in the face of emergencies by mobilizing the power of volunteers and the generosity of donors.
They aim at this mission as they provide disaster relief, host blood drives, provide lifesaving training and certifications, supporting military families, and ensuring that they not only pursue their mission nationally, but also internationally.
The American Red Cross plays a vital role in the blood, platelets, and plasma that is provided to all the hospitals in our communities. Various certifications and training are available that can help many people in our communities get well-paying jobs and have the capability to save the life of their neighbor or friend. When communities are in need whether it is a small house fire or a large natural disaster, the American Red Cross will help with whatever they can by providing clean water or even shelter
This organization is important to the community because it serves as a beacon of hope in times of tragedy.
After reflecting on the organization’s goals and mission, my values, opinions, and beliefs about the importance of health changed for the better. Yes, I knew there was a desperate need for health improvement, but I never recognized the big shoes the American Red Cross are filling. Thankfully, they are playing the role that they do in improving health all around the world and are using people who want to make a difference to do that. Learning more about who and what the American Red Cross is, taught me the importance of me volunteering because my time and donations can help improve the poor health of someone else.
