The American Red Cross’ services relate to Nursing in many ways, but three specific relations stood out to me the most. Blood was the first and most obvious relationship between my intended career field and the American Red Cross because as a Nurse you work with human’s every day. A vital part of keeping human beings alive is the blood that is flowing within them and this organization
Also, the American Red Cross is in partnership with the National Nursing Committee and the Office of the Chief Nurse; in order to ensure that Nurses have the support that they need daily. They help place Nurses wherever there is a need and show them that extra love they deserve. Along with many other amazing things, this organization provides CNA training and BLS training, that helps many aspiring nurses get their foot in the door at hospitals, while they work towards that nursing degree or certification.

Other than Nursing, the American Red Cross’ services relate also with Environmental Health. According to the College of Health Sciences at ODU, “The degree in Environmental Health provides career preparation for positions in the environmental and occupational health fields, which is the evaluation and management of factors that impact the environmental health of the community and the safety and health of people in the workplace. “
As a humanitarian network, the Red Cross provides resources in helping prepare for future disasters. Those disasters include future epidemics, which entails ensuring that children all over the world are receiving the vaccines they need, availability to clean water, or maybe even building safer communities. All those Environmental Health majors can make a huge difference in this organization because they can be a part of making that difference in finding places with poor environmental health and safety. Their relationship with the Red Cross is separate from the blood; however, it is connected in discovering places of need.

Environmental Health is not a major that I would pursue as my parallel major.
Yes, it is an interesting career field and I probably would do well and enjoy it; however, it is not what I am passionate about. It is like why I decided to go for Nursing over being a Doctor, I feel like there is a lack of that one-on-one patient care. What I am passionate about is being able to make someone feel better even on their worst days, inspiring them to keep fighting for their lives, being there when they have no one else, seeing new life come into this world, learning new things every day that can help save a life, to see a car accident on the side of the road and having the capability to try and save someone’s life how, and there are so many more different things that I don’t believe I will get from an Environmental Health major.
