My initial expectations were quite different from what was
expected because I thought that we will have a discussion board or something
where we will be conversing and giving our actual opinions but we didn’t. My
attitude towards various topics in social psychology was enlightenment,
happiness and peace. I was able to successfully transpire my thoughts into words
and release any negativity in my mind. If I had the opportunity to do it all
again I would study harder on the first test. I have grown academically by
understanding everything of APA format and what is required. Professionally, I will
be able to not offend anyone in my words and if needed to be I will correct in
the appropriate manner.

I would say that achieved the objective of understand cultural diversity and the impact of culture on human life, develop a greater understanding of people from other cultures and skills, make connections from various experiences. Reading the textbook allowed me to understand various research plans that were created to understand and test different theories and see the results of those findings.

I would say that i chose this because I was enlightened and I will have a further understanding of more info as I go through life and encounter more individuals.

Blog 9

I have thoroughly enjoyed this class while learning
online! Most of the time I would dread taking online courses but this course
was nice. A few significant concepts I learned were; personality, culture and
the differences in how they are viewed and how they are expressed through other
different cultures. A good concept that I have learned was culture and how that
plays a profound role on not just the individual but everyone around the
individual. That is so true to this day, a lot of people are either effected
culturally negatively or positively. Thus, in cross- cultural psychology I learned
about culture and how that plays a role with not just the individual but those
around. Also, I would say that in child psychology a lot of factors are played with
in raising up a child and the personality of the child. We view the personality
as a big concept and view culture, and other factors such as family, and peers
affecting those around.

I chose this picture because I truly enlightened and humbled by what I experienced and learned just like others did.

Blog 8

I observe that most of the times when I am experiencing a new culture they like to put their best foot forward. Whether that is clothes that they haven’t worn before or they might put on makeup either way they try to impress and look their best. I notice that all like to please the guest by making their favorite foods, or their best food. Their behaviors are similar to my expectation because that is the way it is viewed all around. The concept of universality and cultural display can be used to sum up my finding since that there is a lot of universality with trying to look and be their bet in from of others experiencing their culture. For instance when I went to Jamaica, even though it was a resort it was always everyday men and women with their hair neat, shirts tucked in typically wearing white. They were all dressed to impress and ready to put their best foot forward.

I chose this image of a man that is putting their best foot forward which represents of how i feel experiencing and expressions of all cultures new or old.

Blog 7

This picture is a strong yet culturally diverse version of women.

I do believe that there has been a change in some certain types of modern movies. Many movie plots are moving away from the idea of “damsel in distress”, the “manly role” and more. Nowadays, I see more movies that are empowering young women and having the female be the lead character in certain plots. I know that I can always recall the movie, “Moana”. This movie was the highlight of the summer especially with many memories with my niece that would sing the main song everyday! I thought that this movie was very empowering especially with, “How far I’ll go or We know the way”! Personally, I felt empowered as a woman, that no matter what obstacle or even if family members think that a certain idea is complete garbage if you feel as though it is an idea that one should go forth with, then DON’T LET ANYONE STOP YOU! Furthermore, I definitely think that slowly but surely in the next few years or even decades there will be an ongoing release of egalitarian movies but at this moment I feel as though that it can always be improved and have more movies that reflect equality in itself.

Blog 6

I satisfy the needs of autonomy academically by doing the best that I can. With as many services that are offered to students and more it is imperative that I do the best that I can. I try to achieve academic goals by self- determination theory with intrinsic and extrinsic motivation, achievable goals, and positivity! With intrinsic motivation I motivate myself by reflecting on how many consecutive times that I have achieved something, also thinking how close I am to the finish line, how my ancestors endured terrible times in order for me to get to the place I am now, and how much I relate to others around me that also provide motivation.

I chose this picture because it means that the person finally reached the top after all challenges in his path and there’s a light at the end of the tunnel as long as we keep motivation going and positivity.

Blog 5

I
am…a woman

I
am…a Christian

I
am…a wife

I
am…a daughter

I
am…a sister

I
am…a kind individual

I
am…a giving individual

I
am…a hard worker

I
am…a determined student

I
am…an awesome person

Describing myself can go on for hours and hours but I have
managed to sum up ten words that would describe me with who I am. Based off of
these various adjectives and nouns I separated them based on the interdependent
and independent construal of self. I would have to say that the independent
adjectives and nouns would be statements 3,4,5,6, 9. I labeled them as such because
I would say that those are the statements that are most valuable to me especially
those who I am most closely connected with. They are apart of my personal life
and those are the people whom I can be myself around and not have an edited version
of myself. It’s easier to reflect on the independent self rather than the
interdependent self because it is the me that I am most comfortable with and it’s
the me that I see with others that are close to me.

On the
other hand, I have the interdependent self which is contingent upon who is
there. Statements 1,2,7,8,10 can be edited and also perceived differently
depending on those around me. For instance, if I were to talk to an individual that
is not religious, they would not care to know or to understand why I am a Christian
or why I am a giving individual. Just by those statements that might even think
the opposite of me because they might not care to see that in me or discover

Blog 4

Reflecting on what I did wrong to get the grade that I got on the test, I know that I can do much better on the next test. I can do better by making more specific notes and not just broad notes. Also, I noticed that I had made folly mistakes with clicking the first correct answer without actually reading the content of the entire question. For instance, I will also reread the required textbook pages and make sure I read the specific details of a topic instead of skimming the information. I underestimated the review sheet because I thought that if I just studied my notes I would do well.

In my picture, these are my notes but as you can see I have my notes but I also went back into the readings and made specific notes.

This is my word bubble, these are the words that would describe me.

Blog 3

Neuroticism- A (Average) 20

Extraversion-A (Average) 30

Agreeableness- A(Average) 32

Conscientiousness- H (High) 44

Openness- H (High) 36

            I
would say that these summaries are very true about myself. For instance, the last vacation I went on I went to Damagua Waterfalls in
the Dominican Republic and pretty much chased and jumped off waterfalls. Even though
I like to try new things I still am conscientious about what I do and
everything. My values as a young adult by going to school is embedded from my grandmother. My grandmother always instilled into my aunts and uncles about getting your education, “they can never take that away from you.” That wisdom and guidance was given to me at a very young age by mother and that is something that I still hold true to my heart. It’s advice that has gotten me through my hardest days in my undergraduate career. Needless to say, all my aunts and uncles have held the advice to their hearts since all nine of my aunts and uncles have undergraduate degrees in various fields.

I also chose to continue my education
since I received scholarships from local African American organizations. The help,
work and ethics of my ancestors allowed me to get where I need to be today. They
have shed blood, sweat, footsteps and more to allow me to be able to earn a
college degree and for that I am grateful.

In conclusion I would have to say that
one of my important values would have to be education.
