In this application of Psychoanalytic theory, I chose to focus on Porphyria’s Lover by Robert Browning. Porphyria’s Lover because of the intense sensual nature of the poem. Browning used extremely sensuous adjectives to describe the female character within his poem, and it is evident that Porphyria’s male lover had many subconscious traumas and desires that led to his actions. Through this application, I learned how to truly identify people working through their ego, how people work out their unconscious desires.
