In the application of Queer/Gender theory, I chose the narrative poem The Goblin Market by Christina Rossetti. I chose the short story for Queer/Gender critical theory because the protagonist seems to have an unconventional lifestyle for two young Victorian “sisters”. The goblin “market” could be viewed as the “market” for heterosexual marriage. While working with this theory, I was able to better understand the affects of heterosexual normative mindsets, and how my thought process is programed to process information like that based off patriarchy.
