computer engineering – Being a competent cybersecurity specialist it is important to maintain the integrity of important technological systems. Compared to the 1990’s the capabilities of technology has increased exponentially becoming increasingly prevalent in our society. With a background in computer engineering it would allow any specialist to thrive since it provides the knowledge needed to detect potential vulnerabilities in important software and hardware.
Psychology – The best way to protect people is to understand how they think. As we continue to move into a more digital age the number of people oblivious to the threats on the internet increases. In order to protect these people on the internet we have to understand how they navigate on the internet, as well as, understanding the cyber-criminals. If there is a certain threat on the internet that keeps catching people, it is imperative to understand how it operates and why people are susceptible to it. Understanding how someone operates can help you better navigate a threat.
Leadership – Being a leader means making decisions for the benefit of the company, encourage the collaboration of all team members, and promote the overall atmosphere of the company. In times of crisis it is important that things continue to run as smooth as possible. Cybersecurity encompasses multiple fields but in order for things to continue to operate smoothly communication between these sections. Having a background in leadership will allow for a person to develop the qualities needed in order to thrive in a position of power within a cybersecurity role.
Criminal Justice – Having a background in criminal justice provides a person with knowledge on law enforcement and investigation. Since cyber-crimes can happen anywhere at anytime having investigative skills comes in to play, since it takes time to gather evidence on the internet. Establishing a good foundation on judicial knowledge comes into play when determining if people are committing crimes online.
