How do engineers make networks safer?
Engineers are key pieces in the success of companies due to the development and creation of cyber networks. They constantly work to make sure that the networks are constantly updated and protected from potential cyber threats. Some engineers work specifically on the development of cybersecurity programs to protect these networks and the devices that access them. Their work can be seen in firewalls, antivirus software, biometrics, password management, etc. When not working on these, they have to focus on the infrastructure of the network. They do this to ensure that communication on the network is facilitated, the information being sent and received over these networks is protected, and authorization protocols are increased to prevent unwanted access. They also prevent access to secured networks by requiring strong authentication methods, like 2FA. When these updates are made to the network, the engineers now have to make sure that the network is impenetrable, and they test this by penetration testing. By constantly testing the durability of the network, engineers will be able to constantly improve on the previous version of the network as new cyber threats emerge. While engineers can constantly improve on the network, it would be for naught if trusted users are not able to use them safely. Engineers take on the duties of ensuring that everyone within the corporation is updated on the cybersecurity program. Some of the ways employees can remain unsusceptible to cyber threats are by going through necessary training, recognizing outside attempts by cyber threats to gain access, creating a strong password, and navigating the internet in a safe manner.
Overall, cybersecurity engineers take on important roles within companies to ensure that the needed networks are not compromised. They make sure that the network is protected by educating users on how to safely use the network, implementing strong authentication programs, pen-testing the network to detect vulnerabilities, and building and developing architecture that is resistant to cyber threats.
