3 ways computers have made the world more/less safe.
The capabilities of technology have increased tremendously in recent years but this also has some drawbacks.
Safer:
Communication: There are new events that are unfolding every day, like terror attacks, natural disasters, etc. To stay on top of these events, it is important that we stay informed about them. Technology is able to bridge this gap by giving us the tools necessary send information rapidly. With the development of this type of technology, numerous things were able to be created, such as emergency services and connections between people across the world.
Healthcare: One thing that all humans are susceptible to is bodily injury. Through the use of technology, we have been able to understand the human body in a way that older surgeons would not be able to. For example, medical professionals when presented with a virus, would take significantly longer to develop a vaccine compared to now. Computers have helped us understand the world in ways that allow us to increase development of bio-tech.
Transportation: One of the biggest inventions ever was the car. The popularity of these machines has grown exponentially and can be seen all over the world. Through the use of computers, we have been able to continuously develop safety measures and the capabilities of these machines to give us the cars that we have now.
Less safe:
Cybersecurity threats: The way that the world is connected through technology is one of the main targets for terror attacks. A lot of daily processes involve interconnected technology, which, if exploited, can impact millions of people. This is the reason why the number of cyber threats are only expected to increase as more technological developments are made.
Cyber stalking and Cyber harassment—stalking and harassment—aren’t new problems that the world is beginning to face but it are when conducted on the internet. The capabilities of technology are only going to increase, which means the capabilities of cyber stalkers are bound to increase too.
War – The landscape of war was forever changed with the development of technology. Desperation for victory leads to further development of weapons, causing more casualties to amount.
