Module 5 Journal Entry – CYSE 201S

I decided to put multiple reasons as my first choice because I believe that in most crimes there are extenuating circumstances instead of just one. This leads me into my second motive money. The economic landscape in America is harsh on many citizens, with most being lower class, causing them to steal for necessities. While there are job openings in America than can help relieve the load, some people may not have access to them, or they simply do not pay enough to support the life of that person and support leisure activities. Revenge is in 3rd place on my list because while I believe that the crime shouldn’t have been committed, I sometimes understand the situation that led the person to do it. Adding the fact that some victims don’t believe the punishment given was harsh enough related to the crime committed prompting them to handle the situation in a way they deem fit. There are numerous events happening across the globe that isn’t getting the recognition that it deserves from government officials.  I don’t believe that political motives are a sufficient reason since it is being done for gain at the expense of others. I understand that entertainment is needed to stimulate the mind but committing a crime because of it does not justify it in any manner. Especially because there are other ways for someone to find entertainment. Leading me to place entertainment in 5th and boredom in 6th. I decided to leave recognition for last because I don’t believe committing a crime for attention is acceptable. If the person commits the act and doesn’t get the recognition they deserve, not only did they just commit that act but they may commit an even greater act for that recognition
