Watching the tedtalk by Davin Teo showed that sometimes the life that we expect for ourselves may not always be what we’re going to experience. He begins by explaining that while he may be a Digital Forensic Analyst now he had other plans before that. Majoring into accounting allowed him to be a given an opportunity where he was able to transfer into a technology position. Before applying to the Digital Forensic analyst position he didn’t know what it would entail for him, nevertheless it was the best decision for him. This is the same situation that I found myself in when I decided to switch from computer science to cyber risk management. As a current college student looking for entry-level tech jobs, I believe that the only way to get a position like this would be to transfer like Teo did or go into the military. While not the best options compared to being directly hired by a company, this sentiment is shared by other college students in the same predicament as me. While a little different than the situation with Davin but it just shows that it is easier to transfer into a tech position rather than directly applying especially entry-level. Overall, the ted talk showed me the importance of spontaneity when pursuing one’s dreams. If Davin Teo didn’t take the position that he did he probably wouldn’t be in the same position that he is in today. Also, learning another discipline in conjunction with cybersecurity or technology can increase the chances of being able to move into a better suited position.
