After going through the course I can say my expectations have changed a little bit. This course has taught me a lot of information that I didn’t know prior. I feel as though I came in thinking that this course was going to be a lot harder than it actually is. The course itself is easy, it is just more work heavy than I thought it would be. For example, the assignment papers were kind of hard for me just because I felt like I didn’t know what I was writing about. I personally didn’t see how some of the assignments related to the course itself. They did involve a lot of critical thinking which was hard for me at first because I’m not good at thinking outside of the box. I am more of a visual learner and I use the information provided for me, so when I have to find it on my own I sometimes get a little stumped. Overall this was an amazing course and I would honestly take it again and even recommend it to other fellow psychology majors.

In psychology I have noticed that a lot of the information repeats itself throughout the courses you take. It amazes me how much you can earn in psychology and still not know enough about it. I have definitely learned some useful information that I know I will need in the future. This course goes well with other courses like social psychology and positive psychology. I’m sure there are others but those are the only two that came to mind. I like doing the blog post because it helps me to vent my thoughts about specific topics and really showcase what I have to say about whatever the blog post is about for that week. I do find it hard to find pictures to match every post and I think too many pictures can actually be too much at times. I feel like not everything needs a picture because it is all about what you say and sometimes representation isn’t necessary.

Personally I have noticed that people from other cultures express themselves differently than I do. This isn’t necessarily a bad thing because everyone expresses themselves in their own way. For example, one of my friends is hispanic and her family is really strict on a lot of things. I never really understood why they were so strict on certain things because my family wasn’t. Then I really not everyone is raised the same so maybe their family just has different beliefs on certain topics than my family does. I think it is important to get to know someone’s cultural background because that is how you get to know them better as a person. You get to understand why they act the way they do as well as how differently they are raised than you. My expectations were way off, but I guess that’s why they always say “never judge a book by its cover.”

The disney princess I related to the most was Tiana from Princess and the Frog. I related to her the most because she was one of the only black princesses I saw on television. Growing up I didn’t see many black princesses and I always felt so out of place because of that. Before I didn’t think I related to any of the princesses because I never felt strongly towards one. Tiana made me realize that I can be who I wanna be. She was really the highlight of my childhood growing up. Although this isn’t my favorite move, I would definitely say it is in the top 10. Tiana told me that love was a kind thing and that to never judge someone based on their looks. In the end they could mean the most to you and have such an impact on your life.

I am a strong, independent woman who cares for others even when I can’t care for myself. I am understanding and a great listener. Also I like to think I am genuinely a happy, loving person. There are many things that I could say about myself that makes me who I am today. Although I am my own person, my family has impacted my me to be the best person I can possibly be. I wouldn’t be half of the person I am without there encouragement and support. Statements 2, 4, 6, 8, and 10 are associated with independent construal of self and 1, 3, 5, 7, and 9 are interdependent construal of self. I would like to say I am more independent just because I like doing things on my own rather than waiting around for someone else to do it. I don’t like asking for help or favors because I am capable of doing everything on my own.

I think exam one went well for me and I ended up getting a good grade. At first I was skeptical of the exam because I didn’t really know what to expect. Once I finally sat down and started the exam I relaxed a little more and all of my nerves went away. I became less stressed after reading some of the questions and quickly gained more confidence. If I am being completely honest I don’t like taking notes because I feel like I never take the right notes or that I never take enough notes. I can usually read over things and listen to videos and that is really how I study. It is easier for me to listen than to write down notes that I will probably never look at. There were a couple of questions that I didn’t really know how to answer so I just limited the answer choices I knew weren’t it and got an answer that way. Overall I think this test really prepared me for how future test are going to be and I really liked that a lot.

When taking the Neo personality test my results were openness, agreeableness, conscientiousness, extraversion, and neuroticism. I would say I am very open to new ideas and trying new things in general. Openness was definitely spot on for me. I am very consistent with agreeableness because I feel as though I can pretty much agree and compromise on anything. I’d like to say I am very self disciplined and self controlled, but my conscientiousness wasn’t as high as the other two. Extraversion is lower because I am simply an introvert that stays to themselves a lot. Neuroticism is low on the list because I don’t get mood swings quite often and I never really get anxious about anything.

A value that is important to me is equality. I think that everyone should be treated equally no matter their race, gender, culture, and etc. It is important to me that everyone feels respected and comfortable in their own skin. As a student I have always seen how cruel people can be to other without even knowing them. Judging people for the way they dress, how they act, their sexuality, and plenty of other things is wrong. I think it is disrespectful to think you can treat someone a certain way because you don’t believe in the same values or have the same views as them. It is not our place to tell anyone how to live and enjoy their life. I chose to continue higher education because I felt like it was my only option if I wanted to provide a better life for myself as a grown up. I can’t depend on my parents all the time for things. I have to start providing for myself and my future life because my parents will not always be there. My parents were very supportive of my decision to go to college. They told me that it would be challenging and I would face some obstacles, but to never give up because it will all be worth it in the end. Now that I am a senior I can honestly say their advice is what helped me most through college and all of the obstacles I have faced along the way.

The course objectives are given to us as a description of what to expect throughout the course. They provide us with a little sneak peak of what we are going to learn about throughout the semester. I find them very helpful because I feel as though they help us to understand what is going on in the course, so that we don’t feel lost. My expectations for this course is to gain more knowledge about psychology as well as prepare myself for future courses and even my career. I feel like you can never know too much information about psychology because it is such a broad topic and you can go in many different directions when it comes to career paths. I also expect to be able to retain the information so that I can reciprocate it back to people in the future. I hope that I can be able to enjoy the course and really understand the material. Some of the strategies I plan to ensure my success is being attentive and making use of study time because I think studying affects your success within the course. I am a big procrastinator and I need to get out of that habit in order to be successful in this course and future courses in general.
