Introduction
At 21 years old, I find myself standing on the threshold of a promising career, eager to take on challenges that will shape my future. My life has been a blend of academic pursuits, community service, and professional experiences, all of which have instilled in me a passion for learning and a deep commitment to contributing positively to society. This narrative details the path I have traveled, from my early days at Life Christian Academy (LCA) to my enriching experiences at Old Dominion University (ODU) and beyond, culminating in my aspiration to forge a meaningful career in cybersecurity.

Foundations of Responsibility: Early Years and Education
Growing up, I was fortunate to be surrounded by people who emphasized the value of education and community. My high school years at Life Christian Academy (LCA) were particularly formative, as they helped me develop a sense of discipline and responsibility. At LCA, I thrived academically, graduating as the Valedictorian of the Class of 2021. Being at the top of my class was an honor, but it was also a responsibility that motivated me to set an example for my peers.

LCA offered opportunities to grow both intellectually and personally. I was deeply involved in the school’s STEM program, an experience that cultivated my passion for technology. Being part of the National Honor Society further reinforced the importance of leadership and service, as it required maintaining high academic standards while participating in community service projects. These activities helped me build a strong foundation that prepared me for the demands of college life.

My senior year at LCA was especially pivotal. In addition to my academic responsibilities, I took on dual roles as the STEM Administrator and Aftercare Administrator. Managing the school’s technology systems, including servers and the help desk program, was a challenge that required technical proficiency and problem-solving skills. At the same time, overseeing the aftercare program allowed me to connect with students and ensure their safety and well-being. Balancing these roles taught me the importance of time management, adaptability, and communication—skills that continue to serve me well today.

A Calling to Serve: Work and Community Engagement
Service has been a consistent theme in my life, shaping who I am and how I approach challenges. Since 2018, I have worked as a Music Assistant at Shiloh Baptist Church. In this role, I help musicians set up sound equipment, test microphones, and ensure that the technical aspects of performances run smoothly. While this work is technical in nature, it has also taught me the value of teamwork and attention to detail. Being part of a team that supports the church’s mission is incredibly fulfilling.

Before that, I served as a Summer Camp Leader at Colonial Heights Baptist Church from 2017 to 2018. Those summers were some of the most rewarding experiences of my life. As a leader, my primary goal was to create a safe, healthy, and enjoyable environment for campers. I worked closely with other leaders to plan and implement activities that engaged and inspired the children. Whether it was organizing a scavenger hunt or leading a group discussion, I learned how to connect with people and inspire trust. These lessons have stayed with me, influencing how I approach teamwork and leadership in all areas of my life.

The Next Chapter: Old Dominion University
In August 2021, I began my academic journey at Old Dominion University (ODU), majoring in Cybersecurity. ODU, located in Norfolk, Virginia, is known for its focus on technology and innovation, making it the perfect place for someone like me who is passionate about learning and problem-solving.

The transition to college was both exciting and challenging. ODU offered me the opportunity to immerse myself in a dynamic learning environment where I could explore my interests in technology and cybersecurity. The coursework has been rigorous, but it has also been incredibly rewarding. Each class has added a new layer to my understanding of the field and its complexities.

One of the first classes that made a significant impact on me was CYSE 201, which explored the social factors contributing to cybersecurity incidents. This course opened my eyes to how human behavior intersects with technology, highlighting the importance of understanding people as much as systems. Another standout was CYSE 250, which introduced me to Python programming and networking concepts. Learning to code was a milestone for me—it gave me the tools to approach problems creatively and logically.

Other courses, like CYSE 270 and CYSE 280, deepened my technical knowledge by focusing on Linux and Windows systems, respectively. Through hands-on exercises, I learned how to configure, manage, and secure these operating systems, which are fundamental to cybersecurity work. The culmination of my coursework was CYSE 300, a comprehensive overview of the cybersecurity field. This class tied together concepts like cryptography, network security, and risk assessment, giving me a holistic understanding of what it takes to succeed in this field.

Gaining Hands-On Experience: Internship with the City of Petersburg
In the summer of 2023 and 2024, I had the privilege of working as an IT Help Desk Intern for the City of Petersburg. This internship was a turning point in my journey, as it allowed me to apply the theoretical knowledge I had gained in class to real-world scenarios.

One of my primary responsibilities was repairing and installing computers to ensure seamless operations for city employees. Each task was a learning opportunity, whether it was diagnosing a hardware issue or installing new software. I also configured firewalls to enhance network security, a critical skill in today’s cybersecurity landscape. These experiences gave me a deeper appreciation for the importance of protecting sensitive information and maintaining reliable systems.

One of the most memorable moments from my internship involved troubleshooting a persistent network issue. The problem required collaboration with a diverse team of professionals, each bringing a unique perspective to the table. Solving the issue was not only satisfying but also a reminder of the value of teamwork and perseverance. This experience reaffirmed my passion for cybersecurity and my desire to make a difference in this ever-evolving field.

Achievements and Personal Growth
Throughout my life, I have been fortunate to receive recognition for my hard work and dedication. From being named Class Valedictorian at LCA to earning a place on the Dean’s List at ODU, these achievements are a testament to my commitment to excellence. I am also proud of my involvement in programs like the Male Protégé Program, which provided mentorship and guidance during my formative years.

Equally important are the moments of personal growth that have shaped my character. Whether it was balancing multiple roles in high school, navigating the challenges of college, or contributing to my community through service, each experience has taught me valuable lessons about perseverance, humility, and the importance of giving back.

Introduction

Throughout my academic journey, I have cultivated a set of skills that are essential not only for my degree program but also for my career aspirations in IT and cybersecurity. By analyzing various artifacts produced during my coursework, I will reflect on the skills I have developed and how they contribute to my career readiness. Research and Analysis

Artifact 1: Data Breach Analysis Report

One of the most significant skills I have developed in my degree program is the ability to conduct interdisciplinary research and analyze complex data. A key artifact that reflects this skill is the Data Breach Analysis Report I created in my cybersecurity course. The project required me to research real-world data breaches, assess their causes, and provide recommendations for prevention. This assignment demanded not only an understanding of cybersecurity principles but also an ability to analyze and interpret data from different sources, such as news articles, industry reports, and technical documentation.

The process of completing this report required me to apply research methods from multiple disciplines.
