This article speaks on the discrimination within technology fields and how it can impact the future. Within the article it co-exist with the many social science principles we have been discussing. For example, technological sexism has a lot to do with economics, psychology, and sociology. This also is represented on how big of a topic it has been for years. This article is based on research founded in the technology field. The conception of technological sexism was that women never had a fair chance in technology, especially years ago. After research, they learned that women actually were vital parts of the computer industry. They were programming computers for the military and for NASA. Think about it like the movie Hidden Figures, but industry wide. In the 1960s and 1970s, the industry was exploding and they needed good programmers so desperately that a software company hired two psychologists to develop a personality test to identify good programmers. They discovered that women played an important role in the computer sector. They were creating computer programs for NASA and the military. A software business engaged two psychologists to create a personality test to find strong programmers in the 1960s and 1970s, when the industry was expanding and there was a dire need for good programmers. With research you also realize that there are also a lot less women interested in the technology field in general, which explains why the percentages are low. The article also speaks on how women were being positioned for sex and sexually harassed and how its still happening today. In class we discussed this and the stereotypes around it , and some students thought it was a problem: while some believed it was because of the low percentage of women in the technology field. I will admit years ago it could have been difficult for women to get and maintain a job, primarily from a comfortability aspect. Though, I believe in 2022 where women empowerment is so prevalent it isn’t as much of problem today from the aspect of getting a job, but could be from a workspace as far as sexual remarks about their body and so on.
