My initial expectations in my first blog I had talked about wanting to just learn about people’s behavior and what makes them tick. I was also hoping to be able to keep up with all the class requirements and assignments. I was also worried about doing well on my quizzes and exams. Well, after going through most of this semester so far, I feel like I kept up okay with most things. Except for with some of the blog posts, even though I posted most of them, I did not realize until maybe halfway through that we were supposed to upload the URL in the link in blackboard to count towards our grades. I also did not do as well on the exams as I would have liked. Not sure how I have grown academically over the last few months, I’m not that great at retaining information, but if I would do it again I would try to study more before the exams to do better. I guess one skill I have gained that I can use in my personal life is just knowing the different behaviors of people when they act a certain way, or knowing how not to upset them more, which helps in my job of working at a financial institution call center.

The three things I learned about so far, that I liked posting about is the love test we did, I had never heard of those different styles of love, so it was interesting to see what styles I fell into. I also liked learning about the self-regulation and taking the emotional test too, to see how my emotional level was. I also learned more about the feeling of dissonance, I didn’t really know too much about it before, but I understand now a little more about when we try to balance between our attitudes and behavior. I feel like the assignment takeaway A4 about the love test correlates a little to the module three artifacts where we asked people if they agree to similarity leads to attractions and opposites attract, they both dealt with love and relationships.

Some things I can think of where men upset or anger women is if they lie about things, even small things, or if men yell and curse at women, when a man tells a woman her place is in the kitchen and to go make him a sandwich. Other ways are if a man ignores a woman while she’s talking to him, or playing video games too much.

Some ways a woman can upset or anger men is by being needy, clingy or nagging. Also, if a woman won’t let him have his own space, or hound him about where he’s been and who he’s been with.

The first photo is of a woman nagging a man. The second photo is a guy playing video games, ignoring the woman.

Self-Regulation is where we can control our own emotions and how we react to certain situations. Emotional Intelligence is where we let our emotions take over; we do not control our reaction to a situation. An example of how I display emotional intelligence is when I get down and depressed on myself for not being in the shape I want, for wanting to lose weight, but then when that gets me down, I emotionally eat and keep going in a circle.

The Still Killing Us Softly was an interesting video. What the speaker was talking about is true, advertising always advertise a woman who is beautiful, flawless, and no wrinkles, cellulite, or stretch marks. Advertising also shows women who are thin and in good shape. Of course that is not the real world; some women do look like that, but not all. It does not paint a good picture for young girls, it puts too much pressure on them to be beautiful and skinny or they won’t be accepted. This video looked old, so some things have changed a little, where there is more diversity in advertisements, but not too much.

I found this lingerie ad, which has “The perfect body” in large letters. It has all skinny, pretty women who don’t look like they have stretch marks, cellulite, or any flaws. Of course young girls who see this are going to want to look like this, or they will feel depressed and ugly if they don’t look like this.

One credible source is Nutrition.gov which gives a lot of information on nutrition, dietary supplements, and more. This is a more credible source because it is a .gov site. They use expertise for their credibility. I think it is a good site to look up information. A source that is less credible is when I see an article on Facebook about how a celebrity died, then I always see my friends commenting on whoever posted it talking about how sad it is. I know right away to not trust articles I see on Facebook because it’s not a credible source. I always make sure to search for whatever topic it is to see any news articles or something more credible. The ads or fake death hoax is an example of them trying to argue against themselves, because I heard when people make some ads on Facebook they can receive money whenever people click on the ad. An example of an attractive source could be a personal trainer that is in great shape and looks great. For someone trying to get in shape would rather have a personal trainer who is more attractive and in shape, which they would think would be more trustworthy because they may know what they’re talking about or how to get in good shape. Rather than go to a personal trainer who is unattractive and maybe overweight.

I think the type of student I am is just someone trying to get by and trying to get good grades. I would like to take more classes a semester so I could finish my degree quicker, instead of just taking 2 classes a semester. I know I wouldn’t be able to handle that with working full time. I feel like if I were a lot smarter and able to focus on everything better, then I would be able to handle it. I guess that also speaks to my level of confidence too. I am happy I was able to stick with it and make it this far though. I think the main thing that would help with my confidence would be if I didn’t have to work and could focus just on school, but I can’t do that. I just have to make sure I can stay on top of all my assignments and make sure I don’t forget to turn something in.

This photo is from when I graduated the community college near me with an Associate’s Degree. It was a huge accomplishment for me, since I didn’t start college till I was 25 years old, and it took me like 5 years to get the degree. I also graduated with honors, which I was surprised by.

The course objectives, material that we learn will help us in the future for assessing someone’s behavior. Whether it would be for a career path, or if we are trying to help family or friends struggling with something. I am hoping to just learn more about what makes a person tick, why someone does something or act the way they do. I just hope I can keep up with all the course requirements and assignments. I don’t always do well with quizzes and exams, so I’m hoping I can learn everything well enough.
