{"id":41,"date":"2017-09-13T21:17:41","date_gmt":"2017-09-13T21:17:41","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/sites.wp.odu.edu\/psyc420template\/?page_id=41"},"modified":"2017-12-03T06:44:17","modified_gmt":"2017-12-03T06:44:17","slug":"top-artifacts","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/sites.wp.odu.edu\/harmon-psyc\/top-artifacts\/","title":{"rendered":"Top Artifacts"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<div>\n<p><strong><u>A5: <\/u><\/strong><strong><u>Module 6 Artifacts:<\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>I liked doing this module, I thought it was fun listing what I thought my traits were.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Trait 1:<\/strong> Nice&#8230;<strong>Situation 1:<\/strong> Just got a new position at work in another department, which put me with a new team, I\u2019ve been nice to everyone and getting along with everyone so far.<\/p>\n<p><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><strong>Trait 2:<\/strong> Loyal&#8230;<strong>Situation 2:<\/strong> Made plans a month ago to go out with a co-worker, who is also a close friend, and a couple of her friends to dinner and then to an event. I stuck with my plans and went out with them because I knew it would be fun, Plus, I do not like to cancel on people since I know how it feels to have people cancel plans on me that I look forward to.<\/p>\n<p><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><strong>Trait 3:<\/strong> Patient&#8230;<strong>Situation 3:<\/strong> I work at a call center for a major financial institution where I have to take back-to-back phone calls all day long for the entire shift. On a lot of calls, I have to deal with members mad and yelling about fees or something wrong with their bank accounts, and also trying to walk older people through online banking who are not as familiar with using a computer, smart phones, or the internet.<strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Trait 4:<\/strong> Caring&#8230;<strong>Situation 4: <\/strong>Helped babysat a friend\u2019s baby, I couldn\u2019t sit down or put the baby down without him crying. I had to stand up holing him for 45 minutes till my husband got home to help since I had plans.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Trait 5:<\/strong> Adventurous&#8230;<strong>Situation 5:<\/strong> I love riding my motorcycle around, I got my first motorcycle in my early twenties, and I\u2019m now on my second motorcycle. I feel stress free and light when riding, I also like the looks on people\u2019s faces when they see I\u2019m a girl riding a motorcycle.<\/p>\n<p>I feel like my behavior is consistent with the situations I\u2019m in.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong><u>A4: <\/u><\/strong><strong><u>Module 3 Artifacts:<\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>I liked doing this module and having to ask different people what their thoughts were on this subject, it was interesting and fun to see what their responses were. I also really love the photo I had found for this one.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Similarity leads to attraction:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Person 1:<\/strong> \u201cNo, I don&#8217;t find that surprising. People are going to be attracted to others who share similar interests as they do. We want to be with people that we have things in common with.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><strong>Person 2:<\/strong> \u201cWell, in the words of Paula Abdul, opposites attract. I find that to be true. They seem to bring things out in each other you didn\u2019t know were there. It adds a sense of excitement to a whole new world. Unfortunately, that doesn\u2019t always last for the long haul. So, when you find someone who shares your similarities life goes much smoother!\u201d<\/p>\n<p><strong>Person 3:<\/strong> \u201cI agree with this statement because people are drawn to shared interests. Similarities lead to the assumption that you will have more in common.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><strong>Person 4:<\/strong> \u201cThis does surprise me. I feel you\u2019re attracted to a person first then get to know them. Like judging a book by the cover. If we don\u2019t like the cover who cares about reading the book.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><strong>Opposites Attract:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Person 1:<\/strong> \u201cDoesn\u2019t matter if both have different views\/way of life but if your heart tells you, follow it. No does not seem surprising.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><strong>Person 2: <\/strong>\u201cNo, because they are what you\u2019re not. So now you feel complete.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><strong>Person 3: \u201c<\/strong>I find that statement to be true because I have seen that in many relationships around me and the fact of having to work out the differences can strengthen the relationships. No, it does not surprise me.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><strong>Person 4: <\/strong>\u201cYes it&#8217;s true because it keeps the relationship balanced. For the 6 questions in the Behavior Survey that correlated with each of the 6 questions in the Attitude Survey were different for a few of them. I answered No on 3 of them, stating I didn\u2019t do the action for what I felt strongly about.<\/p>\n<p>When we have the feeling of dissonance, we may feel guilty or feel bad about ourselves. We feel we should restore balance between attitudes and behavior, so we can feel true to ourselves, and so we don\u2019t feel guilty and beat ourselves up. A behavior I engaged in of cognitive dissonance is how I always want to lose weight and get back to when I was skinnier like a few years ago, but I always say I\u2019m going to start eating better or start exercising but then I keep putting it off because I get lazy or don\u2019t feel like it. Also, my cravings are too strong and have a hard time turning down junk food or sweet food. Make sure I\u2019m prepared to answer questions.<\/u><\/p>\n<p>Other-enhancement: <u>Smile, talk about what I can contribute to the company. Some of them were somewhat easy to think of, but some were hard. I think some stereotypes have changed over the years, but of course not all stereotypes go away. Some stereotypes may have gone away or have gotten better just from people, society, and cultures changing. I don\u2019t think all stereotypes could ever fully go away, I think that also depends on how people are raised and the types of settings they are raised in.
