Engineers do a lot of work when it comes to making cyber networks safer. One of the main things that they can do, also most likely one of the simplest, is just making sure everything is patched and up to date. If it is not, then they can do a patch and then send an update out to users to make sure that software is al up to date to help protect against cyber crimes. Something else that they do is try to identify possible threats and vulnerabilities in systems. This is a huge part of preventing cyber attacks because if the system is protected the best that it can be, then attackers are less likely to be able to get through and complete their goal, whatever it may be. Another thing that engineers do to make cyber networks safer is trying to come up with solutions that could help stop different type of malware attacks and attacks in general, including ransomware, malware, and hacking. Again, when we are prepared for the possibility of these attacks, then the less likely an attacker will be able to complete their goal. Much of making cyber networks safer starts at doing whatever we can to prevent these attacks from even happening.
There is a major overlap between criminal justice and cyber crime. Criminal justice pertains to people who are committing crimes, which is the attackers who are committing cyber crimes. Attackers, especially ones that commit attacks on major organizations or cause data breaches of people’s confidential information, need to be brought to justice. Police enforcement does not have much training on this yet, but with how much cyber crime happens, how much it ends up costing organizations, and how prevalent technology is in our every day lift, it needs to be a priority as well.
