The above photo shows my schedule for this week from 4/5-4/11. I do this every week to make sure I keep up with the assignments and my work schedule. As stated in my first blog I designated certain days to school and that is something I kept with throughout the semester (Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays) Fridays are usually my Social Psychology days. I think that having done that and studying more has helped my grade improve from the last time I took this course.

The above photo shows my thought process (or at least the final draft of the 3 different drafts) for this blog and my top 3 things this semester.

It is hard to retake a class because when they ask what you learned its harder to find things but I can say I saw a lot through a different lens a year later (crazy how much we change in a short period of time).

For starters I got some different assignments this semester due to having to retake the course. Assignment 3 was different than the video assignment. Assignment 3 had me evaluate the values and beliefs of people (I chose my family). This was interesting to me and I loved looking at it through a different lens. I can relate this to the self chapter because obviously my family is a part of my identity of self.

Blog 3 and how music supposedly shows our values and we chose people with similar music tastes. While I dont agree with this due to my experience, I had a long talk with my boyfriend discussing how we didnt really agree with it. I related this to my assignment 4 where I read an article about relationships.

Assignment 2 and discussing what makes me, me by looking at pictures and creating a self-portrait. I saw how much I changed in a year in this assignment and that was a lot for me. I related this to Blog 7 and discussing our emotional intelligence. This relates because you have to know your self in order to know your emotions and how to regulate them.

Finally, prejudice, stereotypes, and racism. 3 big things that are definitely still a problem in our world. I find this is still discussed in almost every psychology class I have taken. However I find it relates to my Collaborations special education class. In that class we discussed our implicit biases about age, gender, disabilities, and race and how it impacts the children you teach.

The article we read was about sexual conflict in a relationship and the signs before during and after a relationship. I found this article quite interesting and honestly revealing. I have experienced this first hand and can say I agree. The article also stated an activity about how men upset women and how women upset men. In my experience men upset women wen they don’t listen (hence the photo), are insensitive and undermine women to name a few. Women tend to upset men when they are nagging (hence the photo), talkative, needy, etc.

EQ or Emotional Intelligence is the ability to identify your emotions and where they come from. Self Regulation is the ability to handle your emotions and feelings. For example, according to the video emotional intelligence is when you can go, “okay, I am getting mad because that guy cut me off.” Self regulation is taking a deep breath and thinking how you should handle the situation or if you should. I took an EQ quiz and I scored poor on it. This time last year, I took it and scored high. I know why it changed, a lot of mental health issues have been happening with me lately and I am struggling so it is harder for me handle my emotions and identify them right now. I am working on coping healthily with the emotions and actually experiencing them instead of avoiding them. I have taken up journaling which has helped a lot. I chose this photo because it shows emotion and its me on a good day being able to regulate my emotions and actually confront them.

Even watching this Ted Talk for a second time it is crazy how stuff like this is still in everyday media. I will say we do see more inclusion now but still sex sells. All of these ads use sex to sell a product when sometimes the product doesn’t even call for it. For example, the bike helmet ad, why do they need to be in underwear? Its a bike helmet, but in todays world sex sells. People will buy it because it sticks in their head, they remember that absurd ad. Ads like the “Perfect Body” ad doesn’t help the increase in young girls having eating disorders. I, myself, have struggled with an eating disorder, as have many of my close friends. Ads like those do not help. I have noticed that advertisements tend to still portray when in a demeaning way, but I will say I have also noticed that we are making progress. Almost all of these ads are being called out for being sexist. We are bringing attention to it, there is some progress.

Picture B is not a credible source because it shows no proof to support its claims. People will still buy this ad because it instills some fear of being fat and unappealing like the photo.

Picture C shows an attractive source because it pictures a famous celebrity, Jennifer Anniston. We often idealize celebrities and therefore will buy this product in order to be like her.

For the first exam, I did much better than the first time I took an exam in this class about a year ago. I think I know what helped me this time around. I set aside time for a few days before the exam to study and look over the textbook and the study aids they have on the ebook website. I typically suffer from test anxiety, this time I still had some anxiety, but not as much and I am proud of myself for having done much better. I think this will help me to do better on the future exams.

Music has been around since before spoken languages. We use music to express emotions and what is going on in our lives. Do they express our core value? Ideals? I do not believe so. Sometimes it is just what we are in the mood for, or a certain beat, a time in our lives. This article states that we are attracted to those who share similar music because it means we will share similar values. I do not believe this to be true. My friends, my significant others over time, even my parents at times we have not shared similar music but we have shared similar ideals. For example, my first husband he was big into Hip-Hop and I liked Country (I still do.) My Ex-wife same thing and even the people I date now they majority of the time like Hip-Hop or Pop and I like Country. However we have always shared values. I feel this just shows that sometimes music is just where you grow up and what you grow up with. While I do share similar upbringings as Country singers which is maybe why I enjoy it, I grew up with it. My soundtrack for my life has changed from the first time I took this class and that was interesting to see. I chose the photo above because I love my family and I love hiking and this photo is from our Thanksgiving hiking trip.

My Soundtrack:

My Outlook: Life Changes – Thomas Rhett

My Father: Daddy’s Hands – Holly Dunn

My Mother: Harper Valley PTA – Jeannie C. Riley

Religion: Where I Find God – Larry Fleet

Significant Other: Scrawny – Wallows

Best Friend: Best Friend – Saweetie and Doja Cat

I always believed myself to be a good student, getting my assignments done on time and well. I was a very independent child and am still independent. I never really struggled with school, I graduated with Honors from high school, but that was over 5 years ago. Now I feel I am not as serious of a student. I work fulltime and that has definitely gotten in the way for some effort towards school.

My self-efficacy score was 33 as shown in the photo which is 1 lower than the last time I took it. It is still decently high and I feel it is accurate. I am good at time management which even when I am working fulltime I find time and ways to still do my work and do it accurately.

To better myself as a student and my confidence I have designated days to classes to give it my all attention and to not feel as rushed in the end. I also am working on believing in myself more and my abilities as a student.

After reviewing the course objectives i am extremely interested in learning how we try to understand others and how our attitudes are formed and changed. I feel these types of objectives can help in everyday life especially in the workplace. I feel in the workplace the objective for learning how we form close relationships can help. I expect to be learn all these and how to implement them in everyday life as i would like. I have already set aside certain days for each of my classes including this one which will hopefully help me to succeed in retaking this course. I chose the above photo to represent the concept of schemas and how they help us to frame our thoughts and even our actions which i feel is somewhat representative of the course objectives. It is a framework.
