Assignment 5 Takeaway 12/5
This was one of my favorite assignments. I chose China as my country to evaluate because of how different it is from the United States, in more ways than one. It personally related to me because it examined information and statistics primarily from the perspective of an educator, mostly in kindergarten aged children. I have been working in a early childhood education center for seven years now, and it was interesting to compare, at least statistically and in my personally experience, the difference between the two. They are pretty much at two ends of a spectrum, with the prominent focus in the United States’ classroom being far more focused on individuality. It’s easy to not think about what is going on across the globe, but it is something that needs to be considered in the interest of being culturally informed, especially in the field of Psychology.

Assignment 4 Takeaway 11/7
Sexism across cultures in advertisements is something I don’t think is going to go away anytime soon. Assignment four gave me a chance to explore it more globally. It’s really sad that this is the case, but many studies are conducted on the subject and for whatever reasons this is what sells. As long as the public continues to gobble up the products they are selling, no matter how atrocious the ad, they will continue to make them. I suppose their logic is “why fix something that’s not broken?” Until we, as a society, can tackle some of the issues that are displayed in advertisements, they will continue to be made.

I took a lot personally from Assignment 3. As I stated in my work, I have both family and friend who have made the move to Spain specifically, sometimes knowing Spanish and not. Because the culture is that of another developed and Western one, it is not significantly different in many aspects, so the biggest one is the language barrier.
I am including a picture of my own trip across the globe to Italy, although it is not Spain, it is similar in several ways. It humbled me to be in a country with such a rich culture compared to America’s short and informal one. I feel as though the image represents that relating to another one of our assignments, assignment two, which has a portion mentioning how Americans are always in a rush and use people and time as a tool rather than enjoying experiences. This is something that I feel separates both Spanish and Italian culture from The United States.
