My initial course expectations are the same as the actual outcome except how engaged I’ve become. I feel as though I achieved almost all of the course objectives and more while studying through this course. My attitudes about social psychology have changed tremendously due to the fact I now am in the transition of becoming a psychology major. the study of human behavior is very effective for the mind and in each lecture, class activity, blog, or note. I could relate the course to myself or somebody I know. the mind is very complex and I enjoy studying about it, thinking about it and essentially pursuing a career in it. If I took the class again I would stay more on top of the top artifacts as they were sometimes easy to forget.

I’ve grown academically in this course because before I was very nervous about taking an online course and knowing how to create and keep adding on to my portfolio. This class has given me the confidence to continue to take online courses and have more confidence in my studies. the main skill I gained over this course is analysis. this class has made me wiser and opened my eyes to a broader spectrum of analyzation. I believe this a good trait to have when wanting to figure out someone’s character, their motive behind certain things, and simply their way of thinking.

This image shows how I’ve grown over the semester while taking this course. I chose this photo because the biggest plant is still not fully grown yet. I plan on expanding my knowledge of social psychology because it is an essential part of understanding human behavior.

The three things I’ve learned throughout this course are emotional intelligence, my study habits more in-depth and understanding others. The concept of Blog 7 applied to assignment takeaway four out of all the entries completed. This class has made the biggest impact on my current relationship because we understand and communicate with each other so much better than not only anyone I’ve dated but even within the last 3 months. In social psychology, I learned emotional intelligence is very important. Knowing how and when to control your emotions is the ultimate power, this is discussed through Human Cognition. Cognition, in general, is the study of human behavior. Perception, attention, memory all contribute to the mental processes that help you determine your emotional intelligence.

This is how I organized my way through this class. Referring to my other notes and keeping up with my planner weekly helped me to stay on track and know what assignments are due and where we are in the book.

While reading this article, I 100% agree and believe what Buss is saying. Not only men but women as well have to manipulate and deceiving ways to get what they want out of the other gender. In this generation, people have very specific wants and needs in order to be considered even “together” guys want specifically sexual relations and girls believe the man should pay for anything that they want or need. This creates tension because at this point nothing is natural, feelings and emotions are forced.

For example, men rely on women for sex. Men have a type and most often they’ll look at a woman’s body before her brains. This upsets women because men don’t take the time to try to get to know you before wanting to have a sexual relationship. This goes for women as well, Women will want a guy for their money and that’s all.  It doesn’t matter how they look as long as they can pay for whatever they want when they want it. It’s sad how many women lower their standards for a dollar and how men don’t appreciate women how they’re supposed to.

This is how my boyfriend upsets me by leaving the toilet seat up when I remind him not to.
I Chose this picture because it resembles how I irritate my boyfriend by leaving my shoes in open places and having so many of them.

The relationship between self – regulation and emotional intelligence is they both control your emotions. Self-regulation is identifying your emotions and understanding the difference between what we think and what we feel. Emotional intelligence to me is understanding your emotions and responses to emotions so you can respond better in the future. Understanding your emotional intelligence can increase self-awareness, self-management, social awareness and lastly, relationship management.

Practicing breath counts helps me maintain my emotions to make better decisions. Even when I’m in a frenzy I tend to close my eyes and take a deep breath to reevaluate the situation. In many situations, I use this technique to get my emotions intact to make a good choice. In the EQ test, I scored more than 5 out of 10 for each category. My highest score was self-management and lowest self-awareness.

This is the results of the EQ test I took with the Global Leadership Foundation, it reflects 4 different categories of Emotional Intelligence.

Prior to the presentation, I have noticed the influence ads have on women’s appearance and overall self-esteem. Social media is the new influence rather than ads seen on TV. Plastic surgery, botox, tanning beds, and fake hair are now the new stereotype and creates a distortion towards women. This is manipulating people who try to be different because everyone is the same and no one wants to be an outcast. Nowadays many people edit their photos to look more attractive than they are in real life. The differential gender representation nowadays is based on your body and sexualism. People want to see more body than face and plastic surgery than a natural one for women. Men are less sexualized as if you are young and have abs, you are more attracted to or simply designer clothes and a nice car, you are considered attractive.

Kylie and Kim are known for their amazing photoshop. Kim Kardashian is known for her beauty also, mainly because of her age. Which is the definition of beauty if you are older, to look young. In the 5 ads, I found on social media, Chrissy Teigan is seen in the real image with thinning edges and a more rounder face while her photoshop shows her with thicker edges and a more square, defined face. Cardi B is almost always sexualized mainly because of her music but also because of her surgery and image. She cares more about showing her body than her looks because that’s what everyone wants to see. Winnie Harlow is one of the models who was naturally beautiful but let social media influence her to get a nose job. All of these ladies let social media define who they are when they should show through actions and naturally. I believe this a form of beauty sickness that needs to be controlled because of the definition of beauty changes so often.

Each image shows how women are sexualized, materialized, and convinced to look different than naturally. Kim (F), Kendall (E), and Kylie (A) are known for how they photoshop and tend to look tanner than usual as well as Kendall being materialized like a Louis V bag. Cardi B (C) is shown showing off her amazing body but wearing sunglasses to cover her face. Chrissy (D) is shown what was photoshopped specifically and Winnie (B), who despite the embracement of her skin discoloration shows off her new nose job.

In picture A I believe it is credible because it has the expertise that has approved the book and supplies that generate good business. Most of the people who approve of the book have good developing businesses that are flourishing. I bought one of the books and shared it with my uncle who is a business major and he claimed the book is very helpful. They have percentages to backup gross sales for recurring, one time and in total.

This is a Facebook ad that is selling a waist trainer that apparently slims your waist. In picture B, I believe it is not credible because now in time people get bodily cosmetic surgery that can easily make it seem like you worked out for the body you’re showing off when the whole time it was constructed.

In picture C, the attractive source is very effective because I bought the kit. The Stormi Palette by Kylie is known for its product look, as all her other palettes, face products, and lip liner with gloss. Her attractiveness to her products truly is the reason why her products sell out on her website so fast on top of the quality of her makeup line.

As I reflect on the first exam in this class, I have much success in achieving the upcoming exams. I missed a question simply because of misreading. In preparation for this exam, I took the notes I have from weekly powerpoints, the key concepts on the study guides and put them into flashcards. When I was in high school, my AVID teacher told me that the best way to study is before you go to sleep and when you wake up. Also, chew some sort of minty candy or gum while studying to energize your brain. Before you go to sleep and when you wake up are the times your mind is the freshest.

Every morning and night about four to five days prior to the test, I took 20-25 mins simply going over my flashcards, rereading my notes, looking over the study guide. After reviewing the results, for the next exam, I will read each question thoroughly but at a timely pace. I also will pay more attention to the study guide specifically and not so much on the notes because a couple of items in my notes I was studying for were not mentioned on the exam. Besides misreading, I have confidence that the test will reflect my growth and knowledge throughout this course.

This is the peppermint tea I would drink every morning while skimming over my notes and reading through flashcards I made prior to the exam. peppermint has been found to energize your brain and improve the ability to focus and lower stress. using this method makes my studying more efficient and makes me more confident to take the test in the comfort of my own home.

When discussing the connection between music and relationships with friends, I have noticed major similarities between myself and friends as well as myself and my lover. We all share the same values and beliefs and our music taste shows that. The half dozen songs I chose are for my old friends, new friends, enemies, family, lover, mentors and lastly my overall outlook of life. The association between the songs and the people each describes a way I feel towards them. Each song has a special meaning that when I hear it, I think of them. The song I chose overall to explain my life is The Climb by Miley Cyrus. Life is a climb but the view is amazing.

I chose these half a dozen sogs to illustrate what each means to me for people I’ve come across in my life. When I hear all of these songs, these are the people I think of. Music to me is therapeutic, rappers and talented artists say exactly what I think but can’t put into words and I recognize similarities in emotions and situations they’ve been through.

Throughout middle and high school and now college I have always been kinesthetic, scribble learner. I take pride in my organized notes and multicolor pens when note-taking because they help me to focus better. My current level of confidence is about seven out of ten, in my opinion. In the classroom, I am not shy but I tend to think before I speak which can result in being more quiet and observant compared to inattentive. I feel like in most classes participation is important especially repetition for memorization for me specifically. I appreciate when professors give out reviews or study guides before exams or midterms.

I believe I could come to my full potential as a student if I participate more in class. Often, I make sure I have all the notes to study in my free time and don’t say much in class. Now, coming into my major specifically and done with general education, I can do so. Most general education classes pack your head with facts and notes while upper classes give you a chance to discuss. I plan on taking every opportunity I get to create a better relationship with my professor or instructor and classmates. In the results of the self-efficacy test, I scored a 36. I learned that my emotion, optimism, and work satisfaction is on the higher end of the spectrum. Owning up to my problems and struggles, working them out, and ensuring they won’t reoccur satisfies my assignments and reflects my work ethic as a student.

I chose this photo because it represents the AVID skills I was taught throughout high school and how that affects my learning to this day. Organization is the key to success for me so I go above and beyond to make sure I am taking the correct precautions, notes, and scheduling assignments to ensure success in any course I am enrolled in.

In the future, the objectives the course offers will help me; to test theories about the behavior of individuals, perceive and understand others, discuss the effects of discrimination, discuss the factors that lead to a close relationship and lastly make connections to outside experiences. I expect after the course to have better analyzing, communication, and understanding skills. This is beneficial so I can better understand clients in any situation, of any race and ensure they know I am here to provide and assist.

To ensure success in this course I have all the assignments already written in my planner for the rest of the semester. I also go along with the powerpoints to take summarized notes and look into the actual textbook if I have confusion. With that being said, I take notes color-coded so I can study in more efficient ways. Once finishing the chapter readings, I create 10-15 flashcards to study and interpret so I am always refreshing my memory. This is my first online class so repetition for me is very important in understanding and truly implementing it into my brain.

In this photo, is a picture of my notes that pertained to assignment one describing the different heuristics. I chose this photo because organization is key to success as well as dedication. I summarized information I found via the powerpoints posted on BlackBoard as well as the Social Psych textbook instead of just copying them or just looking over them so I can have a personal understanding of the course.
