Computers have allowed for great advancement and have even made the world safer, but they have also made the world less safe. Off the top of my head, the ability to use computers during the pandemic has been a way that computers have made the world safer. At the beginning of the pandemic, nobody was really aware of how the virus worked and so a lot of the times companies called for workers to work from home. Individuals who are used to working in an office had the chance to create their own office in the comfort and safety of their homes all thanks to computers. It allowed workers to practice the needed social distancing to mitigate the covid-19 virus. Another way I can think of how computers have made the world safer is the ability to do background checks on people working in government jobs, teaching jobs, healthcare jobs, or any job. This makes sure the people in the work environment express the appropriate capabilities to do the job safely and correctly. One final and obvious way the world has been made safer with computers is the use of computers to create software that helps with information security.

Now, how have computers made the world less safe? While good people have access to computers so do not so good people. I know computers have provided a way for people like hackers to steal personally identifiable information. Which causes safety issues. Another way computers provide less safety in the world is how easy it is to invade another’s privacy. All it takes is a simple search in the google search engine and you can potentially find someone’s life story on the internet. I have horror stories of friends getting in harm’s way because of this and proves that the lack of privacy on computers can be extremely dangerous. A final way I can think of how computers can make the world less safe is the creation of not-so-great software.  When there’s a chance to do good there’s always a chance to harm as well. Good and bad software can be created.
