CYSE 270 – Linux for Cybersecurity<\/strong> – Assn. #12 – Advanced Network Configuration<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Scenario:<\/u><\/strong> You, as a network admin, are going to set up your Ubuntu VM as a gateway to provide Internet access to another client Ubuntu VM. The client VM needs to be in the same internal network as the gateway (as shown in Figure 1<\/strong>). Once the connection is ready, you need to configure the firewall to secure the network properly. The following requirements need to be satisfied to receive full credits.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Please configure the network with the following requirement: (You need to clone the existing VM)<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Task A <\/strong>\u2013Network Configuration (60 points<\/strong>)  Please submit the screenshot for all the steps.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Please note \u2013 I just set up Ubuntu this class and \u2018ifconfig\u2019 would not work, took numerous installs and downloads.  I had already copied the Clone so \u2018ifconfig\u2019 did not work either on that VM and all the downloads and installs did not work  So, I ended up deleting it out 2x to get it to work right. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

__XX_____In the virtual box setting, connect two VMs<\/strong> in the same internal network, \u201cinternal_{UIN}\u201d.  Replace {UIN} with your real UIN. <\/strong>hbram<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Step 1.  Set Ubuntu linked base network A Ubuntu network #1.  Screen for Ubuntu A (will be \u2018Gateway\u2019)<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Step 1.  Set Ubuntu clone network B; <\/strong>Screen #1 setup for Ubuntu B (Clone – Client)<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Check ifconfig for Ubuntu \u2013 Gateway (not changed name yet)<\/p>\n\n\n\n

No ifconfig command<\/strong> \u2013 must use the \u2018ip\u2019 command instead.  It won\u2019t install either.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Finally, it can set up tools so I can use the command \u2018ifconfig\u2019!!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Still issue \u2013 no internet yet;<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ubuntu B \u2013 Clone ping won\u2019t work yet either no internet \u2013 had to reclone 2x due to all these issues.  Fyi <\/p>\n\n\n\n

  1. __XX____Change the hostname<\/u><\/strong> of the Client VM to \u201chbram<\/strong> {MIDASname}-Client.\u201d Replace {MIDAS name} with your real MIDAS name. <\/strong>Reg Ubuntu VM \u2013 make \u2018gateway\u2019 ; client make \u2018client\u2019<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n

    __XX_1 \u2013 Ubuntu A VM – sudo vi \/etc\/hostname;<\/u><\/strong> type \u2018gateway\u2019 then :wq! Save file; REBOOT sys;<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

    __x___cat \/etc\/hostname \u2013 should show file name in file;<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

    Step 2 \u2013 change hostname Ubuntu A vm to Gateway; sudo vi \/etc\/hostname; gateway; reboot<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

    Step 2 – Use shell script in \/etc\/hostname file & save & exit    <\/strong>Ubuntu A to hbram-gateway<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

    Step 2 change host Ubuntu A to hbram-gateway; verify it with cat \/etc\/hostname<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

    Step 2 – <\/strong>Then ReBOOT; and then cat \/etc\/hostname  – on <\/strong>Ubuntu A to hbram-gateway<\/strong><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

    Step 2 – Then on client VM \u2013<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

    __XX___2 \u2013 Client Ubuntu VM – sudo vi \/etc\/hostname;<\/u><\/strong> type \u2018client\u2019<\/u>   in file then:  wq!   Save file; REBOOT sys;   __XX___cat \/etc\/hostname \u2013 should show file name in file<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

    Step 2 – change host Ubuntu B to hbram-client  NOTE – when I recloned this 2nd time due to 0 ability to use \u2018 ifconfig\u2019, it copied that name \u2018gateway\u2019 also.<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

    Then, I had to change the name \u2018gateway\u2019 name to \u2018client\u2019.<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n
