For as long as I can remember, I have been fascinated with technology. Being born in the late 90’s I’ve had the experience of growing up with the internet, as many of the websites we use today were also in their infancy.Watching as these websites develop over many years has always been captivating, and with new development comes new security measures. Being able to understand how a system works and how these security measures are implemented scratches an itch in my brain that few other of my interests do. Aside from the fact that I personally find the cyber-world interesting, obtaining a career in cybersecurity is beneficial in many ways. Not only is it one of the fastest growing industries, it is also an industry that provides decent pay for even entry level positions. In a society where the cost of living is always on the rise, being able to find a career in a field that is ever growing with compensation to match is not to be overlooked, not to mention the job security is noteworthy as well. There are so many different things you can do with a cybersecurity degree as well, you aren’t trapped into one set pipeline and that aspect of having a cybersecurity degree caught my eye. My mother has worked in the cybersecurity sphere for over thirty years, she is someone who I look up to and is someone I draw a lot of inspiration from. She is also a big reason why I am interested in cybersecurity. I love listening to her talk about the many facets of her job even though I may not understand all the things she talks about, I have a strong passion for learning and hopefully someday I too will be able to talk to her about the ins and outs of my career as passionately as she does.
