Mid-Semester Reflection

Study Habits

  • What classes are you doing well in, and why?

Surprisingly, I am doing well in all of my classes. I have all A’s which I’m told is an amazing accomplishment. I do try to do all the work and textbook reading that is assigned as much as possible.

  • What classes did you identify as needing assistance in?

Math will forever be a struggle for me but so far, I do not need additional assistance than I already have. I do have a supplemental class and that helps me out a lot.

  • What changes have you made (i.e. amount of time, location, campus resources, study strategies, etc…)?

I haven’t really changed anything besides doing all the work and extra credit I can.

Transition to College

  • What expectations did you have coming to college?

I expected college to be much harder than high school. The classes were going to have harder content and a larger workload.

  • Have those expectations come to fruition, or not?

If I am honest, not at all.

  • How?

Classes are hard but not in the way that I thought they would be.

  • In what way is your college experience different from what you expected?

I have a lot of assignments, yes, but they are easy and relatively quick to do rather than the pages of long essays and thousands of pages to read from textbooks.

  • What has surprised you about your experiences so far this semester?

I am actually able to do all my assignments on time. In my senior year of high school, I struggled turning assignments in because of how much work I had but college is so much easier than I originally thought.

  • If you live on campus: What has been your toughest challenge with moving away to college? Easiest challenge to overcome?

I miss my family a lot. It’s a struggle to drive back to campus when I visit my family over the weekend. As for the easiest, surprisingly waking up early for my morning classes. I am able to wake up and get ready as soon as my alarm goes off.

Major

  • Name something you have learned about your intended major that you did not know at the beginning of the semester.

I did not know that my major has its own separate counselor once I become a junior.

  • Have your feelings changed about your intended major? List some thoughts you are having.

Nope. If anything I’ve felt more reassured with my major. Since I want to be a psychologist, Pre-health is the best option for me.

  • Is there another subject (major or minor) that you are interested in learning more about?

Psychology for sure. I want to take it as a minor or maybe do a double major with it. I want to see what the workload would be as a double major when taking Pre-health.

Connecting to Campus

  • Name one problem or challenge you have encountered this semester, and which resource(s) at ODU you have/can utilize to assist with this situation.

I haven’t had a major  problem yet with this semester. Everything has been mostly calm for the most part. The only issue is that I get lonely sometimes.

  • Is there a friend, roommate, professor, advisor, or group in the ODU community who has helped you so far this semester? If so, how did they help you?

I’ve had some friends help me with feeling lonely. I hope to hang out with them more.

  • Have you attended an interest meeting for a club? Why did you decide to get involved or not get involved?

I haven’t. By the time I found out about them, the interest meeting was done or I couldn’t attend. So for this semester and possibly year, I‘ll just not be in a club.
