A lot has changed from the beginning of the semester to now. When I first started college I was nervous about everything. I was scared about how I was going to be able to finish all the work my professors were giving me. I was also nervous about making new friends and thinking I wasn’t going to make any. Now that the end of the semester is over a lot has changed. I have learned about proper ways to study, and how to manage my time. In college, you have to learn how to use your time wisely and how to go about studying. I’ve learned different ways that work for me when it comes to studying. I still stress but I stress less now that I know how to manage my time with studying. This semester did meet my expectations, but there could have also been some changes. I expected myself to get out more and be more involved with school activities. While going to some school activities was fun I just wish I had gotten out more to have new experiences. I wish that I would’ve known not to stress about school so much. I didn’t know how or what to study, so I would stress myself out when it came to studying.
With studying, I now spend an hour or an hour and a half studying each day. At the beginning of the semester, I would try and learn everything in one sitting not even knowing that I didn’t have to do that. My study habits haven’t changed a whole lot, but they have changed a bit. I no longer try to learn everything in one sitting. I now get the material that I need to study and learn over time. I spend about an hour or more looking over it, and then I take a brain break and come back to it later or I might wait until the next day to look over it. This semester I’ve found that Quizlet, Chegg, and Youtube have all helped me with this semester. For next semester I will probably continue using those websites as they were very helpful. For next semester I will probably find a new way to try and memorize everything better. Sometimes I have a hard time remembering everything so hopefully, by next semester I will be able to figure out a new memory tactic. Going to the library will probably help me more with staying focused and not getting distracted. Some of these courses did seem to tie together others of them did not so much tie together. Classes like sociology and history did match up with the curriculum. Things would always tie back to relate to the past, and how things were. Classes like chemistry didn’t really tie into anything that we would talk about.
All the majors that came in and talked to us were interesting to learn about, but none of them caught my eye. The laboratory scientists were interesting to learn about because so much goes into that job that no one really talks about. I had no idea that they were the ones that looked at all the samples that nurses sample from patients. All the samples could vary from blood cultures, and urine cultures, to positive flu and strep tests. It’s great to always have a backup plan if the first plan doesn’t go right. Working towards something that you want is great even if that means taking another path to get there. Learning about different jobs in the medical field is also important because there are so many to choose from, and so many that people have never heard about. The laboratory scientist would benefit nurses because they tie into each other. They help each other with their own job. You can’t have one person without the other.
