Hometown: Cascade, Va

Why did I choose ODU?: I chose ODU because it was affordable as well as far from home but not to far from home. When I came to visit my junior year in high school I immediately fell in love with the campus. I like how the campus is close together and how it isn’t to far from the beach or downtown Norfolk. I also liked how diverse the school was and how there are many opportunities for you to do things and get involved in on campus.

Hobbies/Interests: I like to play piano and draw. Also I like to spend time with my family and friends as much as I can.

What I learned from the project: When researching for this project, I didn’t really know much about the Vietnam war. My dad actually fought in the Vietnam war as a marine until he got hurt. I remember him telling me a little bit about the war when I was younger but I didn’t fully understand what was going on or what he was talking about. I recently asked him what it was like during that time and he said it was a traumatic experience for him. The veterans in this war were mentally and physically struggling and the government didn’t really notice it. One thing I learned specifically was that the veterans used heroin and other drugs during the war. Overall I understand and now know about a lot of what happened during this time.
