I believe my initial course expectations coincide with the actual outcomes. In Blog 1, I stated that I wanted to gain a better understanding of why certain situations happen, and how to properly handle them. I do believe the assignments in this course did help me gain a better understanding of certain social situations, and how to handle them. I have grown academically by beginning to learn how balance work and school. My attitudes about Social Psychology have not changed, I still believe it is an intriguing course. I feel that I achieved the course objectives fairly well for my situation. If I took this course again, I would not take it during the summer semester. Summer is a very busy time at my job, and it is also just a time of the year where I tend to be less focused than usual. Once skill I learned was, being better at multi-tasking.

The top three things I’ve learned in this course so far are:

  1. I am impulsive and bossy in my relationships.
  2. Stereotypes are changing, as the position of different ethic groups in society are changing.
  3. Doing good deeds for strangers will give you a completely different outlook on life, and yourself.

Overall, I’ve learned so much about myself in this course.

The concept of opposites attract in the top artifacts assignment, spilled over into the love test assignment. The assignment takeaway that I wrote for that assignment, was similar to the top artifacts assignment about attraction. The feminist theory was discussed in this course, as well as Psychology of Women.

Men upset women in a lot of ways. Men make broken promises, cheat, and lie. A lot of men lack good communication skills, forget to clean up after themselves, and forget important dates. Women upset men by nagging, and wanting to discuss feelings. Women also upset men by taking jobs that they feel are “men jobs,” and being powerful. Men and women will always upset each other, that is something that will never change.

It is amazing how relevant this discussion still is today. I have definitely always noticed how ads stereotype and dehumanize women. As a woman, it has always been hard to view myself as pretty in society’s eyes, because I did not look like the women in the ads. In society today, there are so many different apps that allow you to alter your image, before posting it to social media. I admit, I am guilty of using these apps. It has gotten to the point where I feel like it is necessary to use a makeup app before I post a picture of myself to social media; which is horrible. It really stood out to me when Kilbourne stated that the ads basically say “be as white as possible.” I am really glad I watched this video, but sad because nothing has really changed.

The credible source I choose is Essence Magazine. Essence is extremely trustworthy and credible. The non-credible source I chose is a tabloid. Tabloids are horrible non-credible sources whose information is not to be trusted. The attractive source I chose is People Magazine. People always has the hottest celebrity on their cover. They normally include a spread that includes a story about that celebrity’s personal life. I do believe that People is effective and trustworthy. The information is credible, the pictures are the questionable portion of the magazine. They do not shy away from the photo-shop.

Unfortunately, I went one minute over the testing time limit. The grading area next to my exam has an exclamation point, stating “needs grading.” Although we were instructed to send an email to have the exclamation point changed into an actual grade now, I chose not to do so. I chose to wait to see my grade until the end of the semester, as punishment to myself. I should have been better prepared, so that I would not have went over the testing time limit. I went over the review sheet briefly, but not as much as I should have. We are going through a lot of changes at work, and it has been very hectic the past few weeks. I will definitely buckle down and focus more on studying for my future exams so that I can do well, and not exceed the testing time limit.

I completely agree with the fact that music and relationships have a huge connection to one another. Every romantic partner that I’ve had has loved 90s music, which I adore. Music has such a deep impact on people, and the way we feel about things. There is pretty much a song for everyone important person in my life, that I hear and think of them. We all share similar values and ideas, which is great.

The course objectives for Psyc 304 are as follows:

Course Objectives:
-Outline the procedures social psychologists use to test hypotheses about the behavior of
individuals and of groups.
-Discuss the processes through which people perceive and attempt to understand others.
– Explain how attitudes are formed and changed, and how they are related to behavior.
– Discuss the origins and effects of prejudice and discrimination.
– Discuss the factors that influence our liking for other individuals and that lead to the
formation of close relationships.

These objectives will help me in the future by allowing me to discuss the origins and effects of prejudice and discrimination properly. I am hoping to gain a better understanding of why certain situations happen, and how to handle them correctly. I intend to put all of the assignment due dates into my calendar, and complete them on time. I will study hard for each exam to ensure that I am successful in the course.
