Brief Description
I had the opportunity to complete an ID project with a group, which was created over the Fall 2025 semester. The purpose of the ID Project was to improve our understanding of the instructional design process while creating a “life-like” ID project. Our project is titled “Utilizing Simulation Training Modules to Improve Infection Control in a Dental Practice” and includes rationales and research for various sections, which are the problem statement, ID model, analysis plan, learning objectives, instructional strategies, course development plan, implementation plan, and evaluation plan. Our goal for the project was to construct a simulation-based training module for a small- to mid-sized dental practice to implement to promote compliance with effective and necessary dental infection control guidelines with various activities and assessments that will take the learner from basic skill-building to independent application in real-world clinical settings.
My Role
My role in the project included the suggestion of using simulation for the dental infection control modules, specifically developing various sections, which consist of the Instructional Design Model, Instructional Strategy Selection, Instructional Materials and Technology Integration, Implementation Plan, and Evaluation Plan, and editing when necessary.
Lessons Learned
When contributing to this project, I learned how challenging and demanding creating training modules is. At the beginning of the project, I was very unfamiliar with the instructional design process and did not realize how in-depth each section needed to be in order to create a comprehensive plan. Additionally, I was unaware of how many different models and frameworks were associated with instructional design. Throughout the process, I learned the importance of instructional designers in education, whether at the university level or in a dental practice.
