Module 4

Review Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs and explain how each level
relates to your experiences with technology. Give specific examples of
how your digital experiences relate to each level of need.

BASIC NEEDS

Physiological: These are basic needs to help us survive. Technology allows us to order food, find recipes to cook, book a hotel, and buy a house. Technology even helps me to sleep by playing white noise in the background.

Safety: These are basic needs to help us feel safe and secure. Technology allows us to share our location with authorized individuals, provides a GPS when we are lost, and provides us with a number to call in case of an emergency.

PSYCHOLOGICAL NEEDS

Belongingness & Love: These are psychological needs that make us feel loved by others. Technology allows us to stay connected with others using social media. We are even able to make new friends online and maybe even help find romance on a dating app. We are able to text, call, and video call when we are not able to be with someone physically.

Esteem: These are psychological needs that make us feel confident and respected by others. Technology allows us to share our lives through social media. We may feel our esteem boost when others like and comment on our posts. Business and restaurant owners may feel their esteem needs are met through Yelp reviews.

SELF-FULFILLMENT NEEDS

Self-Actualization: At the top, these are self-fulfillment needs that help us to realize the fulfillment of our potential. With technology, we are able to conquer many impressive feats such as obtaining a degree, learning a language, learning a new skill, and so much more.
