First, it is important to point out that cyber threats are constantly evolving. New Technology (including software and hardware) is becoming more complex and is being produced at an astonishing rate. Because threats are constantly changing, it can be difficult for cyber-security professionals to keep up with current threats and extremely challenging to predict what threats might appear next. Cyber professionals need to be receptive to changing previous approaches and open to changing policies to match new threats.
I consider collaboration to be the best solution to facing new threats. Listening to experts from other fields and learning from them can keep cyber professionals sharp. There are many fields that could aid cyber experts in staying up to date on potential security threats. Examples that come to mind include but are not limited to law enforcement, psychologists, sociologists, technology developers, policy writers. I am certain that these experts and many more could help to identify new threats and draft responses to prevent them before they become problems.
Continuing to innovate new technologies and methodologies based from previous threats is also vital. Creating better forms of encryption, and authentication seem to be the best ongoing defense. It also would not hurt to ramp up physical security such as guards, locks, and other barriers for the physical infrastructure that supports the cyber-realm.
Involving people who have more at stake in the creation of cyber-policy is another important step to take. Including stakeholders can go a long way in identifying what priorities and concerns to address and in what order. Overall, staying flexible and maintaining a quickly adaptable attitude would help professionals to stay ahead of new threats. Policies may need to be revised quickly in order to address those new threats.
In conclusion, adaptability, innovation, and collaboration with a diverse group of experts and professionals are the best solution to keeping up with emerging threats.
