Top 5 Artifacts From This Semester
ARTIFACT 1 – Module 3
In this module, I have learned that people are drawn to each other in very unique ways. People are drawn to each other through similarities and quite often, people are also drawn to each other through opposition. This does not surprise me nor should it surprise you based on the differences we all have and share and what we seek in others. Relatability, and similar interest can most often lead to conversation and those similarities in conversation lead to attraction. On the flip side, experiencing something new and learning new views and ideas creates a level of excitement towards the person of interest which proves opposites attract.
ARTIFACT 2 – Module 6
Most of us think we behave very consistently from situation to situation. However, what most of us think is cross-situational consistency is really temporal consistency, behaving much the same in the same situation on different occasions. Therefore, for many of us, there is some variation in our behavior from situation to situation. This assignment gave me the opportunity to monitor how much my behavior changed from situation to situation by allowing me to document five different behaviors with five different situations. Through this exercise, I learned that most of us put on another face to present to different circumstances.
ARTIFACT 3 – Module 8
This Module was a more sensitive topic due to the fact that we were instructed to stereotype every race. I learned that after comparisons with stereotype-adjectives, that stereotypes themselves have changed drastically over the years. This is due to the ethnic position of these stereotypes trending through society today. We use adjectives such as tradition-loving and industrious to describe some of the same ethnic groups based off of what we’ve seen and experienced but the truth is, stereotypes will continue to change over time. Its all based on the people.
ARTIFACT 4 – Module 10
This module teaches us that breaking social norms gives us the ability to see outside of society’s opinion. Most of us defend this confrontation with the belief that they are simply not conforming to the pressure of certain groups. In this module I have learned that by challenging the social norms, I am able to enjoy stepping out of what we think is the “comfort zone.”
ARTIFACT 5 – Module 11
Multiple studies and personal experience tell me that there is a sense of accomplishment (reward) for one’s unselfish nature. In a nutshell, happiness comes from being unselfish. In this module, I have learned that when comparing happiness to selfishness, most people who are selfish in nature benefit from short term happiness but overall leaves them unhappy.
