E-Portfolio Journal Update #1

Four majors closely related to cybersecurity offered by Old Dominion University in my opinion would be…

-Business Analytics

Business analytics is a computer based major, with a focus on homing in your computer expertise to make decisions in the business field. Multiple skills, like critical thinking, computer proficiency, and business comprehension is required to be successful in this field. This is similar to computer security because they both require computer proficiency and critical thinking skills. Having knowledge and know-how regarding the business side of operations is also helpful when majoring in cybersecurity, so that if you were to work for multiple types of companies, you’ll know what kind of security they would need, and what businesses could be more at risk for a digital compromise of information.

-Information Systems & Technology

Similar to business analytics, information systems and technology also is business centered. In this major, you’ll be focusing in implementing systems and analytics in business. This is similar to cybersecurity for some of the same reasons stated above, like combining business knowledge and computer proficiency, to manage programs integral to as business’s operations.

-Occupational Safety

Occupational safety is related to cybersecurity in my mind because occupational safety focuses on creating safety plans and measures to help prevent injury or potential threats to occur. This is similar because cybersecurity also focuses on potential risks and planning for the future, in case a cyber threat event were to happen to an organization or individual.

-Risk Management & Insurance

Similar to occupational safety, risk management & insurance focuses on managing potential risks and dangers, and have to plan for potential insurance claims due to incidents happening to an organization. This is similar to cybersecurity through the common factor of risk management and controlling potential incidents from causing harm. I think risk management of a company and cybersecurity professionals would work together to either plan for incident management or to help with the aftermath of a cyber attack.
